Omsk Oblast (Russian: О́мская о́бласть OHM-skuh-yuh OH-blust’) is a region in Western Siberia, which borders Tyumen Oblast to the northwest, Tomsk Oblast to the northeast, Novosibirsk Oblast to the east, and Kazakhstan to the south.

Regions

Cities

  • Omsk — One of Siberia's most important cities and one of Russia's largest, an excellent stop on the Trans-Siberian Railway
  • Tara — one of Siberia's first cities in the 16th century and the "mother" to many of Siberia's most important cities as it was an expeditionary base; currently a sleepy town home to a number of historical churches
  • Bolsherechye — a historic old Siberian fortress town (1627), which contains a huge zoo; its hippopotamuses made the news by turning up in a nearby lake and giving a couple drunk fishermen a real scare!

Get in

Omsk is a major stop (and indeed, one of the best stops) on the Trans-Siberian Railway. This capital city is also the "terminus" for the Trans-Siberian Railway's South Ural branch.

Omsk has an airport, serviced by flights from Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Krasnoyarsk, and Andijan, Uzbekistan.

This region travel guide to Omsk Oblast is an outline and may need more content. It has a template, but there is not enough information present. If there are Cities and Other destinations listed, they may not all be at usable status or there may not be a valid regional structure and a "Get in" section describing all of the typical ways to get here.
