Talk:Caltanissetta
Add topicHi! I see the part on the Easter week was marked as too encyclopaedic and out of scope for a travel guide. Can someone help me make it less encyclopaedic? This week is the only major touristic event of the city during the year. Many people have only visited the city during this week. When they visit, they usually want to experience the celebrations and therefore they need to know exactly which celebrations to look for and where they take place. Most material in English on the web only gives a broad description or historical context but it would be impossible for a traveller to understand where to go and when to participate in a particular event. That was the gap I aimed at filling when writing this part. Is it out of context? AlbertoSantiniBarcelona (talk) 15:11, 13 May 2019 (UTC)
- AlbertoSantiniBarcelona and Ibaman, and anyone else interested in this discussion: I just read through the deleted text. I think it's very interesting. What I'd suggest looking at as a possible model for how to deal with Easter Week in Caltanissetta is Siena#Palio horse race. The background behind the race is briefly summarized, but with a link to a website where you can read much more information. Is there any website (Italian-language is OK) that covers the kinds of details you would like to make available to readers? If so, a summary with a link would be an elegant solution.
- If not, I think that a longer summary would be appropriate, mentioning the different events, though with a minimum of background. I would in that case keep the entire text for Palm Sunday that's in the version on the left. For "Monday and Tuesday before Easter", I'd recommend simply summarizing to state that Italian- or Sicilian-language Passion plays are performed on those days and state where they're performed. For "Wednesday before Easter", I'd recommend cutting out a lot and mentioning only things a visitor would be likely to see - mainly, the processions and anything particularly interesting about the appearance of their costumes or what they're carrying. I don't have time to go through the entire very detailed text and choose what to take out, but I think it's beyond the scope of a worldwide travel guide to give this detailed a blow-by-blow account.
