Which 9 cities?

[edit]

The "City" section in a region article for which there are smaller regions isn't supposed to have more than 9 entries (see Wikivoyage:Avoid long lists). So which ones should be removed? Ikan Kekek (talk) 21:47, 20 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

I guess this "region" could make an exception, as it encompasses half of the country and it contains one of the European regions (Castile and León) with four cities designated "World Heritage as a whole" by the Unesco. So I'm missing Segovia, Burgos and Ávila in that list. As said, I would make an exception and not remove the existing ones, but if really needed I would probably lead my thoughts to León or Zamora, and, to a lesser degree, Valladolid or Badajoz. No exception is made for India or China, so definitely not for any non-bottom-level region article. However, only 9 cities are listed now. So thanks for your suggestions on which cities might be removed, but it looks like they can all stay. Ikan Kekek (talk) 03:50, 1 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
Then someone would need to ask "Why those 9 cities"? Strakhov (talk) 09:21, 1 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
Is it "the nine which arrive first will stay" a rule here too? Strakhov (talk) 09:23, 1 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
Not at all. If you'd like to propose to replace some cities with other cities, please do. Ikan Kekek (talk) 20:58, 1 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

Why Montealegre de Campos?

[edit]

Do I really have to reach consensus in order to remove the lonely "Montealegre de Campos" from "Other destinations"? Is that reasonable? Strakhov (talk) 17:29, 31 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

No. --Ypsilon (talk) 17:32, 31 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
Yes Done --Ypsilon (talk) 17:36, 31 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. Strakhov (talk) 18:12, 31 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
Hold it: What's your reasoning? Why is it better to have no listing than to have this one? Ikan Kekek (talk)}
Because there could be a hundred towns more meaningul to a tourist in "Central Spain" [sic] than Montealegre de Campos. And it doesn't even have a page. It's still a nice and pintoresque 116-inhabitants-town declared "Bien de Interés Cultural" as "Conjunto Histórico" (Historical Ensemble), just like many others only in its province (es:w:Alaejos, es:w:Medina del Campo, es:w:Peñafiel, es:w:Rueda (Valladolid), es:w:Simancas, es:w:Tordesillas, es:w:Urueña, es:w:Villalba de los Alcores), not even considering the whole region (Castile and León), that encompasses 9 provinces, or this macro-region (Central Spain, 17 provinces). (replying to IK) It's not a listing but just the name of the city added in a Telstra-esque way, and we don't have any article for it. Its short Wikipedia article tells us this is a village with a little over 100 inhabitants, albeit it does seem to have an interesting castle. I checked out the Openstreetmap view of the village, and it doesn't seem to have any services. Google maps does show two hotels when zooming in so it would pass the sleep test, and two churches and a town hall, but there doesn't seem to be any restaurants, cafés, shops or anything else there. Places like this we usually add to the Go next section of the nearest city that has/could have an article or describe as a sight in the See section of the region.
And indeed there are quite a few of this kind of small villages with a castle in Spain (and southern Europe generally), and this doesn't to my understanding stand out. Though if someone would like to write an article about Montealegre, then sure, go ahead. --Ypsilon (talk) 09:45, 1 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
Got it. And as a village, it's not really an "other destination" in the first place. Thanks for the explanations. I'm satisfied. Ikan Kekek (talk) 21:01, 1 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
