And the purpose of this article is...?[edit]

Looking at W:Comtat Venaissin, this is an historical region which hasn't existed officially since the Revolution (1791 to be precise), and seems to cover roughly the same area as the modern department of Vaucluse. It therefore seems to duplicate much of that article's purpose, when all of the information about the traditional Occitan culture, and the area's history as a papal county, could be moved to the Vaucluse article.

The purpose of an extra-hierarchical region is to cover destinations which don't fit into our hierarchy, usually tourism regions which don't map onto administrative divisions; we have already shown that this region maps rather well onto the existing breadcrumb region - the department of Vaucluse.

Examples in France of these are French Alps and French Riviera. Comtat Venaissin is not comparable to these; it is the equivalent of other historical regions such as the Touraine and Berry, today part of the region Centre-Val de Loire. We don't have a W:County of Nice article; we have Alpes-Maritimes. We don't have W:Périgord, we have Dordogne. What makes this a special case? --ThunderingTyphoons! If it (more or less) corresponds to one of the articles we already have, then we shouldn't have a separate article and the content should be moved to Vaucluse. Extra-hierarchial region articles, e.g. Swabian cultural region, are for (historical/cultural) regions that span across several of our regions, and therefore can't be merged into just one of them. Exactly. --ThunderingTyphoons! (talk) 20:40, 12 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@CollectiuComtadin: Any thoughts on this? --ThunderingTyphoons! (talk) 22:36, 14 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

This edit would also seem to confirm Vaucluse and Comtat Venaissin are pretty much the same place, the differences being political (the former French and the latter Occitan). --ThunderingTyphoons! (talk) 22:39, 14 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

User:CollectiuComtadin has, in my view, had enough time to respond to one of the messages I have left for him/her, and was online earlier today. I am therefore going to go ahead and start moving the info on this page into the Vaucluse article, and when that is complete, I will redirect this page to the department.

CollectiuComtadin, if you're reading this, please know that I am incredibly grateful for the content you are adding to Wikivoyage, but one of the fundamentals of a wiki is being willing and able to communicate with others. Si vous avez du mal à s'exprimer bien en anglais, il y a quelques utilisateurs francophones ici ; nous (l'équipe administrative) sommes là pour vous aider. --ThunderingTyphoons! Redirected. I'd like to encourage CollectiuComtadin to continue adding useful content to the Vaucluse article, and particularly information about the Comtadin identity. --ThunderingTyphoons! (talk) 15:32, 15 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
