Talk:Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex
Edits about angry "rednecks," etc.
[edit]I find I'm somewhat troubled by recent edits of articles in this region of Texas that are broadly derogatory toward much of the population. How do we all feel about passages like this:
"There is a very large population of various bigots, wingnuts and zealots in the Fort Worth area. You can find drunk, angry rednecks anywhere. Don't try to talk to them. If one of them tries to engage a conversation with you, just nod your head and agree that Obama and/or the Democrats are responsible for all their failures in life."
Is there a less confrontational, less partisan way of distilling the part of these kinds of comments that are most useful to visitors? I certainly don't think we want to take a partisan viewpoint on Wikivoyage, and many white Southerners consider the word "redneck" to be a slur. However, there's probably more than a germ of truth to this (though I haven't visited the area, myself, so I can't speak from personal experience). Your thoughts, everyone? - In full agreement. More is being added right now about supposedly racist police officers. I lived in the area for ten years, and can attest that most of this stuff is overblown and not relevant to the traveller. There is also an unnecessary focus on giving details about northern Ft. Worth suburbs in particular, and on dealing with the Indian community. The user has added a few useful things mixed in there, so I was hoping to wait until they are done doing whatever before pulling out the scalpel, but it's stretching into days of these edits, so maybe we should get the users attention and/or start trimming this stuff. - I totally agree. It makes the area lakes sound like Chernobyl. It would probably be best to delete large sections than to try to salvage it. From what I read, there isn't much relevant information to travelers.Altaihunters (talk) 08:54, 1 October 2013 (UTC)
