Eskihisar has it's own page? Wow![edit]

This town is a place that you might visit if only you are taking ferry from here to Yalova, still very low possibility as the road to ferry harbour does not pass through the town. But I didn't know that Osman Hamdi Museum was here. It is a place to see but there are lots of towns, some more touristic and charming than Eskihisar in Turkey. I am sure we can not add more content into this page, so shall we keep this page or merge Osman Hamdi Museum info to another city? —The preceding comment was added by Hocu (talkcontribs) 16:08, 15 February 2017‎

Yeap, the most likely scenario that you would end up in Eskihisar is for taking the ferries across as the article already states, but still, it's a place (and a nice one at that) with its sights, places to eat and sleep. Please consider viewing WV:What is an article? for suggestions on what/where gets its article and what/where does not. There are lots of places in Turkey that aren't covered by Wikivoyage yet, and our road map should be to write about those places, not eliminating material about places that are subjectively decided to be less important and/or less beautiful. Thanks for your interest, yes sure it is a place, a very small place and I have been there just because I used the ferries. I checked it's status in Wikipedia and other sources as well, the place is a neighbourhood/district of Gebze County of Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality. With a population of 526 (yes population is not a measurement) you can be sure that you will not find anything other than the Osman Hamdi Bey Museum and the castle towers. Instead of eliminating those places, I recommend merging the places of interest into encompassing city. We can make a list of beauties of every single small town where you can not find a transport opportunity other than a minibus outbound at 6 o'clock in the morning and inbound at 6 o'clock in the evening. But is it more suitable to organise them in one place or to give them their own pages with empty section headings? I am not an experienced user, still learning and reading help pages, manuals and example articles/guides, so please let me know if this situation fits in some kind of rule or not.Hocu (talk) 17:32, 15 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
We can make a list of beauties of every single small town where you can not find a transport opportunity other than a minibus outbound at 6 o'clock in the morning and inbound at 6 o'clock in the evening. — Why not? At least interested travellers could have the opportunity to be informed about the public transport timetable.
Slightly more seriously, though, empty section headers mean that they weren't filled in by anyone yet (and I'm a hundred percent absolutely sure that Eskihisar has places to eat and sleep that aren't listed yet), not that the place that is referred to is not worthy of an article. And in case of Eskihisar, there is not really an "encompassing city", and Eskihisar itself is the "city" as per Wikivoyage definition. While better organization is of course encouraged, as far as I can see, there is no other article that the Eskihisar material could be merged into. Gebze is currently a red link and a nearby yet an altogether different kind of place (an overgrown industrial suburb, really, though with an interesting Ottoman mosque complex in the centre), and Izmit is too, too far away to be of any use. OK, I get your point as I stated in the Votes for deletion page, it has places to sleep and eat, then ok, let it stay.Hocu (talk) 18:16, 15 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Later: I propose re-purposing this page as Gebze - a conurbation of a third of a million which lacks a page. A ferry still sails from Eskihisar, but fewer travellers will go that way since the bridge opened in 2016 and bypassed the port. Its POIs and amenities are worth describing but so too are those elsewhere in the city, and I doubt that separate pages for the townships will be viable. I've been bothered by the lack of an article for Gebze for a long time now (but didn't start one since I've never truly visited the town), and as long as Eskihisar and its attractions are still described in it, I am okay with moving this to Gebze and widen its focus to all of the area. You've been doing a great job in merging/re-focusing articles and I put my trust in you for that. Vidimian (talk) 08:48, 5 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Tamam, work is under way. Grahamsands (talk) 09:02, 6 April 2022 (UTC) Yes Done 7/4 GS[reply]
A great job, again. Vidimian (talk) 13:43, 7 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
One thing I'm not certain about though: what's with the Hobbit village, leeches (?) and Erdoğan? I had to Google it up, and saw a 2014 commentary typical of Erdoğan for his adversaries, seemingly irrelevant to the place. The reason I missed the connection is because I didn't visit the Hobbit village yet or the satire is too overboard there? Vidimian (talk) 09:03, 8 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Oh never mind. I think I've got it now. Vidimian (talk) 12:09, 8 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
