There are different spellings used throughout the article (both Gdansk and Gdańsk). Which should be used? (WT-en) Jamboo 05:44, 20 March 2008 (EDT)

Gdańsk, but many people don't know how to create the ń character. We need to add special characters to our edittools --(WT-en) Nick 06:20, 20 March 2008 (EDT)

German ties of Gdańsk?

[edit]

Expression "The German population was expelled and replaced by Poles as the city came under Polish rule and changed its name to Gdańsk. However, the impact of its former German ties is still evident." - suggests, that Gdańsk was formerly a german city, overtaken by Polish people... Gdańsk was a part of Kingdom of Poland since 1242, previously it was owned by Pomeranians (old Slavic - not German - culture). Aftrerwards it was many times conquered by either Teutonic Knights, Prussians or Germans, especially after 1871. It had a complicated history and multicultural bakground, also with great inpact from Jews and Dutch (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gda%C5%84sk ). But thinking that it was a German city - is by far not correct. but before the coming of the slavs to that region it was inhabitated by germanic tribes and some of them remained there after the barbarian migrations, and those who remained there were either expelled or absorved by the invadiding slavs in the sixth century

Restaurants

[edit]

The recent additions to the 'Splurge' restaurants were done by me. I didn't mean to edit anonymously. (I'm visiting Gdansk for Wikimania 2010.) (WT-en) Ijon 19:40, 9 July 2010 (EDT)

European Solidarity Centre

[edit]

I moved the following listing here from the main page, since I think the "European Solidarity Centre" has taken over its function. Can someone confirm that this is the case and the listing below is now closed?

What is needed for Guide level?

[edit]

This article has a lot. Many venues should have coordinates and Wikidata links. What else is needed for promotion to Guide level? /Yvwv (talk) 18:40, 28 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
