Spelling?[edit]

Google seems to show Kunduz as the far more common spelling, but the Afghanistan map shows it as Konduz... what to do? (WT-en) Cacahuate 06:22, 8 December 2006 (EST)

Roll a dice. Like many Afghan places, there is no consistent English spelling of the name. The K can be Q, either o/u can be o/u and there might be 'e' on the end. Any combination of these is possible! (WT-en) Davidbstanley 10:46, 8 December 2006 (EST)
Right, but I'm thinking of the Article naming conventions which states to use the most common English spelling, and I believe that is 'Kunduz'... but then it conflicts with the map on the main Afghanistan page, which is where my question comes in... but I'm voting to move to Kunduz (WT-en) Cacahuate 02:03, 9 December 2006 (EST)
I had a look on a few maps. Encarta and Google Earth spell it as Kondoz, and an aviation map as Qonduz. The Afghan Central Statistics Office spells it as Kunduz. I have always used Konduz. There really is no consitency about the spelling. If you want to change it, do. But I think it will make no difference! (WT-en) Davidbstanley 14:34, 9 December 2006 (EST)
