Removed Wedding Chapel Advertisements[edit]

I removed several not-so-subtle references to specific wedding chapels and "marriage information lines" that are actually sponsored by a wedding chapel. Nothing wrong with a neutral 3rd part writing about such venues, but Wikivoyage should not be used for advertising.

Drinking in Las Vegas[edit]

The problem is that most bars are in casinos so you you have to listen to those god awful slots ringing away 24 hrs a day. A good- if pricey- cocktail bar is the Venus Lounge found just outside the Venetian. But, for the real deal it has to be the Double Down Saloon, dark, noisy, vaguely psychotic and all round cool - (WT-en) Anon

See, do, shows[edit]

  • Well a show is something you see, there are a few interactive shows but for the most part you see a show. You "do" when you ride a ride at NYNY but you see Rita Rudner there. Seasonal shows and limited engagements are a whole another thing. I think if the show is going to be on more then two weeks it would should be considered, and dates should be noted on the item. Winnings on games[edit]

I know that you are required to pay tax if you win at one of the casino games. But will the tax be witheld immediately or will you have to declare it in the future for your income tax return? How will tax on your winnings be collected? --(WT-en) Jr traveller 11:44, 25 December 2006 (EST)

Yellow Pages[edit]

This article has become a bit of a yellow pages (an explicit non-goal), with over a hundred links to hotels, restaurants and shows. That's not entirely bad (IMHO) since the main attraction in Vegas is its casinos and their associated shows, restaurants and clubs, but unless anyone objects I'd like to make an effort to trim things a bit. The restaurant section in particular looks like it has some low-hanging fruit, with most of the places listed under "cafes" being places that don't really need their own listing since we can simply note that almost all of the larger casinos have a cafe of some sort. Similarly, I think we can summarize the buffet section by noting that just about every large casino has a buffet, and then adding entries for a few of the notable ones. Food poisoning at buffets[edit]

I removed the following from "Stay safe":

One other thing to watch out for is food poisoning at the local buffets. A lot of hospital staff have encountered many cases of food poisoning and Hepatitis A from buffets. It is recommended to avoid them especially if you are not vaccinated.

I don't doubt that there is the odd case of food poisoning at any restaurant in the US, but recommending that people avoid buffets unless they have been vaccinated against hepatitis is pretty extreme. Added Helicopter Tours[edit]

Hi Everybody! This is my first time editing on Wikivoyage (however, I do edit quite a bit on Wikipedia). I added a section on helicopter tours (based on my recent wonderful experience!) I was very careful not to mention the company's name but I did a list a few of their other helicopter tours. Bed bugs[edit]

Not sure how grim we want to get, but someone has a website about bed bug reports and many are reported in Vegas hotels- even 5 star ones. Not sure if we want to keep the page like a brochure, optimistic only for Vegas or talk about the realities. Like the reality of rampant crime and a strange legal system that acts to bribe the police. Also the mass amounts of problems, such as foreclosures, the hotels have encountered. --(WT-en) Electrode 02:34, 5 November 2011 (EDT)

Unless bed bugs or other problems are significantly worse than other places then they don't need to be mentioned. The page SHOULD reflect reality, including the negatives of Vegas, but at the same time there don't seem to be significant numbers of people coming home from Vegas complaining of bed bugs or bribing police, so such things probably don't merit mention. -- (WT-en) Ryan • (talk) • 11:54, 5 November 2011 (EDT)
