[edit]Does this deserve its own article? Can't sleep there, I don't think – (WT-en) cacahuate talk 01:55, 23 May 2007 (EDT)
- The "can you sleep there" test sometimes gives way to a "is it so remote that it can't be reached as a daytrip from another place" test for remote islands, and in this case I think these islands pass that test. However, as discussed on Talk:Antarctica#Australian Antarctic Territory, regions based on Antarctic territorial claims generally aren't appropriate for the purposes of a travel guide. For example, visitors to the islands in this region will probably also visit Macquarie Island (claimed by Australia), so they should likely all be within the same regional article. However, since we don't have a driving reason to have a sub-region for these islands, redirecting this article to Islands of the Southern Ocean might make sense. -- (WT-en) Ryan • (talk) • 02:38, 23 May 2007 (EDT)
- Do any of these five island groups (of The Snares, Auckland Islands, Campbell Island, The Antipodes and the Bounty Islands) actually fall within the ambit of Antarctic Treaty sovereignty claims held in abeyance??? --118.93nzp (talk) 05:26, 10 December 2013 (UTC)
Region category?
[edit]Based on the 5 year old discussion above, I'm wondering if this should just move formally under New Zealand? Andrewssi2 (talk) 03:10, 10 December 2013 (UTC)
- Well, yes, and there certainly was a discussion at Talk:New_Zealand#Regions_.2F_cities_.2F_other_destinations_-_Part_II where I rather put my foot in it and revealed my ignorance of the intimate details of Frank's proposals... --118.93nzp (talk) 05:22, 10 December 2013 (UTC)
