Old banner
New banner

Just noticed that User:Kulmalukko has changed the page banner, likely without any discussion. I would like to contend this decision, because I don't see how the new banner is characteristic of Rousse. It can be anything anywhere and, frankly speaking, the composition is not great at all. In contrast, the old banner has a fine composition and depicts a very typical Austrian-style building that can be immediately recognized in the city, while Cyrillic letters in the middle of the photo uniquely identify it as an Austrian-style building in Bulgaria. --Alexander (talk) 09:49, 14 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

In the meantime, the change was reverted by a Wikidata admin, so the old banner is restored. Note also that Russian Wikivoyage has strong consensus for the old banner. --Alexander (talk) 13:05, 14 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
I like more the new banner, because it displays Ruse centre with several buildings. The old banner displays mainly tree leaves and only a small part of one building is visible. --Kulmalukko (talk) 13:13, 14 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
Could you explain which building on the new banner is recognizable? Otherwise, what's the point of showing them? --Alexander (talk) 14:06, 14 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
It's an overview panorama of centre. --Kulmalukko (talk) 23:32, 14 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
The point is that such an overview panorama could be seen anywhere in Bulgaria: Pleven, Dobrich, Shumen, and even Veliko Tarnovo. On the other hand, the Austrian-style building immediately tells you it is Ruse. No other Bulgarian city is like that. --Alexander (talk) 23:37, 14 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

Name change

[edit]

I would support changing the name of this article from Rousse to Ruse. The Ruse spelling is used by Wikipedia, the official Bulgaria Travel site, Tripadvisor and Lonely Planet, hence it seems fair to say that that is the most common English name for the city. The other transliterations, notably Rousse and Russe can be noted in the Understand section to avoid confusion. --ThunderingTyphoons! (talk) 16:03, 11 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
