Talk:Salem (Oregon)
Did a lot of work, pretty much in each section as it was far from meeting the MOS standards.
Would also recommend only those activities which are truly unique/interesting to travelers/difficult to find outside the Yellow Pages should be included...would totally agree to any deletions for hotel/motels since I only left the ones that were not chains but there are no descriptions to avoid them looking like a phone book listing.
Lots of items need more specifics, especially price guides for the Eat section.
Good luck! Drew 14:25 22 Oct 2009 (EDT)
- I added a few items myself. I did take out the motels that I knew were demolished-- probably someone should add in some more. Yes, they might be chain hotels, but unless you want to send people to the Cozzzy Inn, maybe we need to include them. Not happy with the dining section either. Might be a little out of date as well... I know this town has some hidden gems, I'm just not as familiar with them. Truly unique/interesting items are good to emphasize, but I think we also need to remember that travelers have predicable needs as well-- eating and sleeping being primary.PhilD86 (talk) 06:51, 18 January 2013 (UTC)
Wine tours
[edit]Re: this edit, I think it's legitimate to list wine tours, because for safety reasons, people may prefer not to risk driving to and between wine tastings. In practice, I believe it's been Wikivoyage policy to permit such listings. However, I'd like confirmation or denial on this score.
Even if we list such tours, though, they shouldn't be based on a red link in "Go next", but, if day trips, should be listed in "Do". Ikan Kekek (talk) 02:17, 16 May 2017 (UTC)
- Ok, that makes sense to me. It just didn't appear to meet one of the exceptions listed in Tours which focuses more on places travelers couldn't get to on their own (prohibited, remote, etc.), or unique experiences (helicopter rides, etc.). It also got my attention because of the red link (though I didn't remove that in case someone was going to make a page, but perhaps it should be removed?), and the language sounded like a tourist brochure "Tour safely and comfortably with a good Oregon wine tour company..." --JakeOregon (talk) 17:50, 16 May 2017 (UTC)
- Agreed that it was touty. Ikan Kekek (talk) 20:44, 16 May 2017 (UTC)
