Highway 11

[edit]

Lake Simcoe is only about 100 km north of Toronto. Hwy 11, which I think is considered the extension of Yonge Street, appears to go to Lake Nipigon and/or Thunder Bay. That would likely yield the correct distance as well, but someone should probably verify that 11 is Yonge Street. Particularly since this info is currently appearing on the front page of Wikivoyage ... —The preceding comment was added by (WT-en) 205.189.194.204 (talkcontribs)

Thanks. On Wikipedia , I see this info is indeed not correct. --(WT-en) globe-trotter 20:21, 6 September 2011 (EDT)
I now fixed it. Thanks again. --(WT-en) globe-trotter 20:33, 6 September 2011 (EDT)

Obsolete article

[edit]

This article is redundant and obsolete, and should be deleted. It's flaws are:

  • It contains much out-of-date info.
  • It overlaps other district articles often duplicating information.
  • It is inconsistent: It shows a map of just the Yonge-Dundas area, says it describes Yonge St from the lake to Bloor St but then includes an item from North York.
  • It acts poorly as a theme article.
  • No one wants to keep it up to date.
  • It had only one link from the main article (since removed). (There is another link from the Wikipedia Yonge Street article.)

I have copied a few usable details to other district articles. I could copy the intro to the main article's Toronto#Districts or Toronto#Understand section with appropriate changes. If we take this approach, I could replace the contents of Toronto/Yonge Street by a redirect to a new section in the main article.

Could we delete Toronto/Yonge Street, please.

I'm not familiar enough with the Toronto article to know if deleting this article would leave any gaps in coverage, but if not then it should be redirected to Toronto rather than deleted since redirects are preferred over deletion. -- Ryan (talk) 22:32, 4 January 2016 (UTC)Reply
There will be no gaps as the Yonge Street article only overlaps other district articles. And there will be no loss of information. I'll add a new Yonge Street section in the main article's Districts section and change the Yonge Street article to a redirect.TheTrolleyPole (talk) 23:04, 4 January 2016 (UTC)Reply
Hi there, Toronto/Yonge Street is a remnant of when we reorganized Toronto's districts a few years back. You're right, it overlaps a number of other districts so it's not meant to be included in the main article's Districts section. The idea at the time was to turn it into an itinerary like Chicago's Along the Magnificent Mile because it's a fascinating street, but I don't know it well enough or have the time to do the research. At this point, it's probably best to redirect it to Toronto. -Shaundd (talk) 22:32, 5 January 2016 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the background info. The new Toronto#Yonge Street section does have some "itinerary" info as an overview.TheTrolleyPole (talk) 02:39, 6 January 2016 (UTC)Reply
