A very old temple city which has excellent scenic places around it also. The more apt thing would be to say that the every place in this region is scenic. Picturesque beaches and lush greenery around the city are really exemplary.Be ready for at least 3 to 4 days of stay to explore the whole area around this place.

It is located in the western ghats region of karnataka state. Some geographical facts about the city are as folows

  • Around 350 kms from Bangalore, capital of karnataka.
  • Along with Manipal, these are known as twin cities.
  • Weather is almost similar throughout the year due to nearby Arab sagar. Temperature ranges from 30 degrees centigrade to 35 degrees centigrade in day time and around 10 degrees less during night.
  • Humidity is generally high most of the time.
  • During rainy season, april to september, monsoon shows its true colour in this area. Within seconds, it can soak you in kilo-litres on water.

The temples of Udupi[edit]

After thinking about it, I have decided to remove most of the temple listings. Every village in DK has its temple, every temple is locally important and believers from outside the city may travel to visit them. But to add them to the city article, we need to decide that a particular temple has a large enough following, has an interesting history or architecture. Discuss before adding back.

There are various Devi temples around Udupi. They are

"Style" Warning Boxes[edit]

There are 3 warning boxes that have been slapped on to the History, Eat and Buy sections. I am not sure if these are valid. I don't see anything wrong with having a history section, given that it is important to understand the religious significance of the place. I don't see anything wrong with having a description of the cuisine and major dishes of the place, especially for a place like Udupi whose cuisine is actually an important part of its identity, and I don't see why describing what to buy is out of place in the Buy section. Anyone disagrees with me removing it? — Ravikiran (talk) 09:46, 4 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The history section may be too detailed. I think some of the details relate more specifically to the Sri Krishna Temple and Mutt and could be covered there. There's another alternative, though, which is to subdivide the "History" section into coverage of the monastery and the more general coverage, which is currently in the last 2 paragraphs of the "History" section. Since that's the path of least resistance, if you like the idea, let's do it. I would tend to put the section about the monastery second, but I could be persuaded otherwise.
I agree with you on "Buy" and would support removing the style tag in that section.
I also strongly agree with you about "Eat", but we could consider putting a subheading of "Udupi cuisine" on the first section, which is a really useful section (the only thing I would change that I see at a glance is some unneeded capitalization of dish names). I made these edits. See what you think of them and edit further as appropriate. I'm leaving the shape of the "History" section to your discretion. Ikan Kekek (talk) 03:02, 7 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I will ask again for a review once I am done with the edits, but the general direction I am going in is to break up the history section and sprinkle the interesting historical facts throughout the article into the See (and soon, Do) sections. — Ravikiran (talk) 06:00, 7 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Of course I have full confidence in you, but I'll be happy to look at your work whenever. Ikan Kekek (talk) 06:36, 7 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Review needed[edit]

I want to make this article into a guide, nominate this for OTBP for January 2022 (which coincides with the next biennial Paryaya) and probably also make it into a star. I'd love your review comments. Some things that I am still working on:

  • Eat and Drink sections need prices.
  • Buy - the section needs some restructuring. Some of the items we can buy at Ratha Beedi are listed in bullet points while others in a paragraph.
  • Go next - needs to be rewritten entirely.

What else does this need to make the cut? — Ravikiran (talk) 10:58, 21 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
