Upington has one of the longest runways in the world but it is NOT the biggest city in the Northern Cape Province. The capital, Kimberley, has that honour.
The runway was built by the apartheid regime for transport planes carrying supplies to South African troops stationed in Northern Namibia, and almost certainly and probably in secret to Unita, the forces that fought the government of Angola until the death of leader Jonas Savimbi.

Just wondering, isn't Kimberley the biggest municipality population-wise in North Cape province? Lazarus1255 (talk) 06:20, 12 September 2020 (UTC)
