The chained library[edit]

What's a chained library and where can this one be visited? Shouldn't it be in See, perhaps in the listing for the Minster? Even if it is behind a lock, I assume one can hear about it – and otherwise, one should be told it is unavailable. –LPfi (talk) 13:26, 15 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

In a chained library, the books are chained to the shelves - an early form of library security. You may have seen something similar in a museum where books are tied to a bench so you can read the "available in the shop" reference books. The library is in the Minster, but is open shorter hours, summer only. AlasdairW (talk) 20:53, 15 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I have heard about those, but I think the meaning isn't obvious. Thanks for the addition to the article. –LPfi (talk) 21:30, 15 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
