Terchová is a mountain town with 4,000 inhabitants in Central Slovakia. It is a nice and convenient base to hike the Malá Fatra, especially the Jánošík Holes and Chleb trails.

[edit]Bus stop: Terchová centrum, next to the church. Buses to Žilina and the surrounding villages.
Get around
[edit]Take the bus to Biely Potok, Štefanová or Vrátna for more hiking trails.

[edit]Many trails for hiking and cycling: get a map of the Malá Fatra at the tourist office (€2.50).
Jánošík Holes (Jánošíkova Diery) trails: a stroll among forests, crevices and waterfalls with a hint of via ferrata, most impressive on Horné Diery. Start from Hotel Diery near Biely Potok (bus from Terchová every few hours).

[edit]Jánošíková Koliba (1 km on the road to Biely Potok, soon after Hotel Jánošík): good local and Slovak specialties. €3-6 for most main dishes.
