Tra Vinh is a city in southern Vietnam.
There are direct minibuses from HCMC. Another option is to arrive by boat. Either a private charter or you can try to get on a cargo boat from Ben Tre.
The centre itself is small enough to cover on foot. To explore the greater area you can rent a bike from the tourist office or via some hotels.
The tourist office sells a map (20,000 dong, Jan 2012) which covers both the city and Tra Vinh Province.
A place to rent motorbikes is located on Nguyen Thi Minh Khai 42B (about 5-10 minute walk from the centre). The shop is called Nguyet. Price for a decent automatic is 200,000 dong, a manual transmission is 100,000-150.000 dong. (Jan 2012)
There is a big market right in the centre. The city also has some Khmer pagodas.
Explore the centre on foot, or rent a bike to see the province of Tra Vinh. The beach is supposed to be one of the nicest in the Mekong Delta.
- Duy Tung/Van Thanh Hotel, 151 Le Loi. Has nice rooms. Would not give a room to a single traveller even though the clerk had a key ready and multiple keys on room hooks behind her. 200,000300,000 dong (Jul 2012).
- Phuong Dong Hotel, 1A Phan Dinh Phuong St, ☏ . OK simple room with motorbike parking and Wi-Fi. Some rooms have a balcony. Not much English. 95,000-170,000 dong (Jul 2012).
