Boucherville

• 1 Place de l'Église Sainte-Famille (Square of the Holy Family Church), 560, boulevard Marie-Victorin (facing the St. Lawrence River). The Sainte-Famille Church, this Catholic cultural place, was built between 1801 and 1802. Made almost entirely of stone, it demonstrates the unique style of construction of the buildings that were used before. This square includes the church, the former convent, the presbytery and the monuments of Pierre Boucher, founder, and Jeanne Crevier, co-founder of Boucherville. (updated Feb 2022)

Created in 1992, this 960,000 square meter nature park includes the Lac de la Cité (1.1 km long; artificial lake divided into three areas), the artificial hill, areas of peat bogs, wooded areas and the plain grassed. Main infrastructures: cycle path, hiking trail, children's playground (with water jets), training circuits around the lake, white calcite monument (for the world day for the eradication of extreme poverty), pavilion of reception, free parking, an arched bridge, a bridge overlooked by the 150th century terrace, an area to set up infrastructures during events (e.g. Quebec Day, winter carnival), etc. The pedestrian and bicycle paths around the lake stretch for 8.0 km to the Raymond-Lévesque library. Main activities: lake mountain slide, hill slide (Kimber Boulevard), cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, leisure activities in the pavilion's multidisciplinary room, etc. The path "La Montée du chemin de Chambly" of the Route Verte (bike path) is adjacent (south side) to the city park. A herd of about sixty geese lives from April to October in this park. The park has a reception pavilion (550 square meters) including sanitary and first aid services, the Cité café, a sports equipment rental shop and rest areas. The Archivolte sculpture designed by artist Claude Millette was erected in the fall of 2011 to evoke the 150th anniversary of Saint-Hubert; it is erected near the pavilion, on the terrace of the 150th. A wildlife reserve, the Boisé du Tremblay, is partially in Le Vieux-Longueuil and partially in Boucherville. This 260 ha nature reserve is home to Western Chorus Frogs, rare amphibians. The management of the wooded area has been carried out by "Acquisition, gestion et mise en valeur des milieux naturels" (Acquisition, management and development of natural environments) (AGMEV), since 2007. Since 1938, the event has taken place every year at the beginning of July over a three-day period in the heart of the city on Bay Saint-Francois. The regatta is an international hydroplane boat race, where the hydroplanes (planes without wings) can achieve speeds of up to 225 km/h. Attracting over 130,000 visitors per year, it is a great weekend of thrilling hydroplane races, dinners, parties, outdoor concerts featuring renowned Quebec artists. It features Canada’s first lock canal and the remains of a fort. • 10 Old canal marina in the city center (Marina du Vieux canal au centre-ville), 420 Victoria Street (dockside parking is in the harbour of the marina protected by a pier). The marina of the Old Canal has a capacity of 400 boats at the quay. Its bucolic bay opens onto the majestic Lake Saint-François which is crossed by the St. Lawrence River. Visitors can take advantage of the urban promenade along the Old Canal, its Delpha-Sauvé park, its shore cycle network, the commercial streets of the city center, gourmet restaurants as well as admire the old built and well-restored heritage. This hydroelectric plant is the most powerful on the Ottawa River. It was erected near Long-Sault where Dollard des Ormeaux and his companions fought a battle against the Iroquois troops. 10 Rigaud

• 28 Mont-Rigaud. This mountain is not particularly high, but covered in mixed forest, which means that the autumn leaves turn every colour in October. Bring bug repellant if you are going hiking in the forest, as there are mosquitoes and blackflies, especially in the spring and autumn. (updated Dec 2018)
• 29 St. Madeleine Church in Rigaud (Église Sainte-Madeleine de Rigaud), 4, rue Saint-Jean-Baptiste Est (opposite the Rigaud River, in the heart of the village of Rigaud), ☏ +1 450-451-5751. Catholic Church. Its old architecture with double bell tower with exterior stone walls has great heritage value. This church, which has more than 200 years of history, is endowed with numerous works of art, many statues, an impressive organ and two well-crafted bell towers. (updated May 2022)
• 30 Sanctuaire de Lourdes, 43 Rue de Lourdes, ☏ +1 450 451-4631. Catholics might light a candle at this outdoor, hundred-year-old shrine to Our Lady of Lourdes built into the mountain, which operates only in the summer. Non-Catholics might enjoy the "potato fields", a strange natural clearing of thousands of small boulders in an otherwise wooded area close to the shrine. The local legend of its origin are that a potato crop was turned to stone beause the farmer worked on Sundays. The old chapel near the summit of the mountain provides a great view of the Ottawa River valley. (updated Dec 2018)
• 31 Charlebois House (Maison Charlebois), 43 Rue de Lourdes (near the Clercs de St-Viateur cemetery). This two-storey wooden building was erected in 1840 and enlarged in 1905. The covered gallery surrounds the residence on three sides. This building is associated with several generations of Charlebois who lived there. This property is a heritage building. • 32 Former Rigaud station (Ancienne gare de Rigaud), 15, rue Charlebois. This former Canadian Pacific station has served travellers since 1891, for intercity travel. Then, it was used for commuter trains on the Montreal/Dorion-Rigaud line in 1898 and 2010. The first station existed from 1891 to 1940; the current building was built in 1940. This station was very popular with pilgrims visiting the Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes sanctuary or students attending Bourget college. This building, now owned by the city of Rigaud, has been designated a "heritage railway station" since 1994. This railway line has become a pedestrian and bicycle path linking Rigaud to Vankleek Hill (in Ontario). (updated May 2022)

Mont-Rigaud is not very high or challenging, but for skiing it may be an alternative to the faraway Laurentian or Appalachian mountains for those living to the west of Montreal.
