Intro to draft

[edit]

A proposal to change the criteria at 'Wikivoyage:Votes for deletion#Deleting, or not' is being debated at 'Wikivoyage talk:Votes for deletion#Revisiting "guilty until proven innocent"'. The criteria is currently that, if no consensus is reached about whether or not to delete an article, file or template, then the article is deleted. The core of the change proposal is that, if no consensus is reached about whether or not to delete an article, then the article be kept. A series of variations on proposed wording for the "Deleting, or not" section have been put forward.

Nurg's draft of new wording for the "Deleting, or not" section, plus an ancilliary change, is below.

Comments on the wording are welcome. I am not soliciting comments here about whether or not you think the "Deleting, or not" section should be changed – keep that to the debate at Wikivoyage talk:Votes for deletion#Revisiting "guilty until proven innocent". The topic here is: What would be good wording if the criteria were to change.

Please add comments to the Talk page attached here, not this page. After considering comments and giving further thought, I intend to offer the resulting draft at 'Wikivoyage talk:Votes for deletion#Revisiting "guilty until proven innocent"'. – Nurg

Ancilliary change

[edit]

Instructions about how to delete should be moved to a separate section (perhaps on the "Votes for deletion" page; perhaps at Wikivoyage:Deletion policy). The "Deleting, or not" section should be only about making the decision whether to delete, not the technicalities of execution.

  • If, after 14 days of discussion, the consensus is to delete, an administrator may delete it.
  • If, after 14 days of discussion, the consensus is to redirect or merge, any Wikivoyager may do it. If you make a redirect, please check for any resulting broken redirects or double redirects.
  • If, after 14 days of discussion, the consensus is to keep, any Wikivoyager may remove any VFD notices from that page, and archive the deletion discussion.
  • If there is no consensus after 14 days, allow a further 7 days for discussion.
    • If, after the additional 7 days, there is no consensus, the page should be kept – any Wikivoyager may remove any VFD notices from that page, and archive the deletion discussion.
    • If, after the additional 7 days, there is a consensus, implement it in line with the first three points above.
