This article covers advice about hot deserts. For advice on cold deserts, see Winter driving

If you're going to a desolate and sparsely occupied area and an area with arid land with usually sparse vegetation, that means you'll be going desert driving. You'll likely be passing areas with little or no human impact, and distances are far, you'll have a lot to consider when driving. Dust storms can often affect visibility, and fatigue is a big killer in the desert, that it's a challenge all year around.

Another thing you'll need to realise is that there are very few paved roads in the desert. And unless you're in the US, there's almost zero chances that you'll ever go on a divided highway, let alone a freeway.

Understand

The first thing you'll need to understand when going out into hot deserts, is that distances are long, and can easily be underestimated.
