Hi.
I'm Julian. I finished school in early 2015 and decided to go on an extended trip through the Americas afterwards. I am working as a freelance programmer on the road so I sometimes write about the cafés where I work and try to share info about places with outstanding Internet Access. At some point in 2016 I found that the lower I set my budget the more I enjoyed my travels. I am consequently staying a lot with locals (e.g. through BeWelcome) and I am also camping frequently and often outside of designated areas. When I can not find free accommodation, I try hard to find the cheapest reasonable option in town and include it in the wikivoyage guide. Though on a budget, I try not to miss the touristic highlights of the countries that I go to. Therefore I am always looking for creative ways to cut costs. I hitchhike a lot and also hike substantial distances sometimes to avoid paying for overpriced tourist transportation. I am fascinated by OpenStreetMaps and work a lot on mountain trails there in particular. In late 2016 I started to travel almost exclusively with WikiVoyage articles as guides…it's sometimes frustrating but also fun. I make most of my edits through a wikivoyage Android App that I am working on https://github.com/saraedum/apps-android-wikivoyage. I hope that I can find the time to release it soon in the app stores. Please send me a message if you want to try it out :)
