What can we do to make the mobile Wikivoyage experience better and get more readers
Good existing features
[edit]- Nearby - when you are in a rural area or a large conurbation, will list location articles near you based on your GPS position. Great to decide where to go when travelling and looking for somewhere to eat.
- Listings phone number - simply click on the telephone number to call to make a reservation or check opening hours.
- Listing location - click on location number and you go to map that shows its location. (short coming see below)
What needs improvement for readers/users
[edit]- Your location on a Map is available from the desktop mode but not mobile mode.
- Need the geo map icon (top right in desktop mode) on the mobile version
- The listings map feature needs icon like on the geo map that will show your current location on the map.
- App icon, should be more that a simple W. How about the symbol?
idea for features
[edit]How do you get users more engaged.
- Google will proactively ask for photo of location you are at. Will ask you later questions and for review of places you have visited based on location history.
- Do we have access to such technology?
- Would we want to do this?
- Cf. phabricator:T143884
- Notifications
- when feature article changes.
Mobile editing
[edit]How to make easier, i.e. minimum clicks and typing
- Listings editing. No assistance in mobile mode, unlike listing editor in desktop mode. Not sure listing editor is the answer; what do we expect people on smart phone wanting to add and edit? e.g. content description, prices, opening ours.
- Option to suggest a point of interest on a page. App looks at location and nearby wifi to identify poi. POI submitted to action list (with information added by person) that the original person or other Wikivoyage contributors can then later add to a page as a detailed listing.
- Flag listing as out of date.
