Hello, ClausHansen! Welcome to Wikivoyage.

To help get you started contributing, we've created a tips for new contributors page, full of helpful links about policies and guidelines and style, as well as some important information on copyleft and basic stuff like how to edit a page. If you need help, check out Project:Help, or post a message in the travellers' pub.

Thanks for your work on districting Beijing! (WT-en) Jpatokal 23:15, 1 March 2009 (EST)

Do you live in BJ too? What sites do you copy information from to post on wikiTravel?

Qingdao Wikivoyage

[edit]

Hi Claus,

Thanks for the additions and keep up the good work it is much needed. My concern is that if times, dates, or details of events are placed on WikiTravel then the cite to where the information came from should also be included. Original and current information on the Qingdao Beer Festival came from the source cited. In fact, last year the beer festival was NOT held during the normal dates due to the Olympic Sailing Regatta and Qingdao China Guide was the first to make this information public.

The YinHai International Yacht & Sailing Club details regarding the ferry to Huangdao is NOT found on YinHai's web site but rather on Qingdao China Guide, which is the original source of the information regarding the ferry to Huangdao.

Thanks again for your help.

From what sites did you get your statistical data (specifically the bus stop information) on wikiTravel Qingdao? Have you ever traveled to QD? If so, when? Can you read/write Chinese? If not, where do you copy the Chinese from to paste in wikiTravel?

Qingdao Eat section

[edit]

Hey there. I put the style tag on there because the section should be organized into our standard three price range subsections (Budget, Mid-range and Splurge) rather than by cuisine type. (WT-en) Texugo 01:51, 27 March 2009 (EDT)

Copenhagen

[edit]

Thanks for the help on Vestegnen, adding everything/anything you might know about the area would be greatly appreciated, as this is definitely my "gray" area, growing up in Nordsjælland. With a little luck and work on this district, Frederiksberg, and the main page, we could hopefully get Copenhagen up to guide status by the end of the month, having it ready to be featured on the front page during the climate conference in December, and get a Wikivoyage Press guidebook ready for the NGO's for the same occasion. --(WT-en) Stefan (sertmann) Talk 11:23, 7 May 2009 (EDT)

Impressive work creating all those stubs! Now just add some content to them =) (WT-en) Jpatokal 12:30, 10 June 2009 (EDT) I added to one of the stubs (the part of Shanghai I live in), thanks for your help cleaning it up!! 58.37.201.47 12:31, 5 September 2009 (EDT)

Image uploads

[edit]

Don't know if you've seen it, but many of your image uploads have been put up for deletion, could you please leave a comment over here? If you need any help with figuring out what you can - and can not - upload from places like flickr, shout out, we'll be happy to help. --(WT-en) Stefan (sertmann) Talk 13:55, 1 August 2009 (EDT)

Hey Claus, the VFD page had an overhaul this weekend, and many of Beijing pictures (and Kalundborg and others) got deleted. You might want to look them over and delete the red boxes that came up. Remember when you look for images they must be licensed PD (public domain) or either CC-by (Creative Commons-attribution) or CC-by-sa (Creative Commons-attribution share alike)
On flickr, press advanced search (appears after you click search once), go to the button of the advanced search page and check all boxes in the creative commons section (only search creative commons content, use commercially and content to modify). When you find an image it is a good idea to verify the license, go the bottom of the right hand column and check there is no dollar and equation mark symbols, it might sound complicated but after a while it just becomes second nature.
On Wikipedia close to all of the images are compatible, but do a brief check anyway. --(WT-en) Stefan (sertmann) talk 10:25, 26 October 2009 (EDT)

Dali: Hotel du Temps Perdu

[edit]

Hotel du Temps Perdu has changed ownership and no longer has an expat owner. None of the information on Wikivoyage is correct (I should know, I'm the former owner who put it there in the first place:). It should be removed to avoid confusion. If you have any questions about this, please e-mail me at hoteldutempsperdu@gmail.com or call me at +8613988414203. Thanks, and great work on the Dali page!--(WT-en) Htp 02:26, 12 September 2009 (EDT)

Nordsjælland

[edit]

Patrolling

[edit]

Hey Claus, it's awesome to see you adding templates to the many stub articles, thumbs up! If you feel like getting more involved in the nitty gritty bits of WT management, another task that could really use some help is the Recent changes patrol. At the moment me and Burmesedays seem to be doing the lions share of the patrolling, but the more users involved in this, the less tedious it gets - the ultimate goal is making sure every change is patrolled, and we are closer to that goal than we have been for a long time.

If you want to help, try go to your preferences (up on the top right), once there select the recent changes tab and check the "Enhanced recent changes (JavaScript)" option. If you go back to the recent changes page now, edits will be grouped together, and edits that has not yet been patrolled will be marked with a red exclamation mark on the left side of the summary. If there are any red exclamation marks try clicking on "(diff/X changes)" and above the summary you'll be able to click [Mark as patrolled] if everything is in order, or (undo) if it's spam, vandalism or touting - if unsure just leave it and someone else will come along and check it.

Ofcourse everyone one is welcome to contribute with whatever they feel like doing, just wanted to make sure you knew about his task. About a quarter sometimes up to half the edits on English wikivoyage, are ones that need to be reverted, so it's pretty essential to keeping WT clean and useful for everyone.

Cheers, --(WT-en) Stefan (sertmann) talk 20:29, 28 December 2009 (EST)

Alternative Sub-regions of Maharashtra

[edit]

On Talk:Maharashtra, I have suggested alternative Sub-regions of Maharashtra that are based on 5 geographical regions, rather than 6 or soon to be 7 administrative/political divisions. You may like to comment, since you made the original proposal and reorganised the articles. - (WT-en) Huttite 20:30, 8 January 2010 (EST)

This is a nice project, it has been bugging for for quite some time, and it's really good to see someone begin tackling this. After London and New York has been taken care of (and Tokyo once I figure out how to finish those darn maps) I think India is now our biggest headache, partly because Indians seem to be every bit as chaotic online as they are IRL, partly (exactly) because the region structure is one big mess. So thumbs up, I have some idea's for tackling Kerala - have an unfinished draft map lying around, so hold up with that one. --(WT-en) Stefan (sertmann) talk 17:27, 14 January 2010 (EST)
I was planning dividing it up into the old kingdoms; Malabar, Kochi and Travancore, the problem is that while the Kochi region is fairly well established, doing the real borders is a bit of a headache - more details here. Another alternative would be this (from Wikipedia)
The Districts are grouped into three on the basis of geographical, historical and cultural similarities.
 • North Kerala includes Kasaragod, Kannur, Wayanad, Kozhikode, Malappuram, and Palakkad.
 • Central Kerala includes Thrissur, Eranakulam and Idukki.
 • South Kerala includes Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Pathanamthitta and Kottayam.
But I like the other names better, I think it's better to avoid bland directional names when you can --(WT-en) Stefan (sertmann) talk 08:16, 15 January 2010 (EST)

Thanks for your ex-put on Jinghong, Yunnan. You managed to delete some information to help local guides earn money they deserve and at the same time advertise a cafe that expliots them.. well done. —The preceding comment was added by (WT-en) 82.25.67.141 (talkcontribs)

I think our China friend is confused, as far as I can tell from the history page, all you did was delete two completely empty listings . So hmmm. --(WT-en) Stefan (sertmann) talk 15:23, 10 January 2010 (EST)

Poughkeepsie

[edit]

Why did you remove the listing I added for Noah's Ark to the Poughkeepsie page? It is a very popular local establishment. I used to live in the area, so I know.

I have not removed it, only changed the formatting, (WT-en) ClausHansen 04:55, 16 January 2010 (EST)
OK, looks like there was a syntax error that prevented the listing from appearing. I fixed it.

Maps

[edit]

Hi Claus. Great to see you producing some maps! I see though that you are not putting any credits in the mark-up, just "Own Work". Whilst I am sure that is true, you must be using a base map image to trace from, get the scale, etc? This image should be credited I think. I got confused by this at first and Peter put me straight on the issue. A map mark-up of the PNG file should look something like (using one of mine as an example).

Myanmar.

Nusa Lembongan

[edit]

Hey Claus. Please do me favour and check the Nusa Lembongan map again to see if the grid lines have now gone (be sure to purge cache to get the latest version). I have done the fix and the gridlines should be gone, but it is hard for me to know for sure as I could not replicate the original problem on my own screen. Thanks very much. --(WT-en) Burmesedays 02:20, 12 February 2010 (EST)

Eidfjord

[edit]

Hi Claus, I noticed you did a big revert at Eidfjord. I had already engaged the user at User talk:(WT-en) Visiteidfjord explaining what needed to be happen and I think she should be given the chance to put things right. There is clearly a lot of good information to be had, if it is presented properly. I am going to restore your revert but keep a close on it. If the user does not come through, then we can easily revert again. Cheers. --(WT-en) Burmesedays 04:07, 19 February 2010 (EST)

The metric system is only used in Mexico, it is an important reminder, especially for American visitors.

[edit]

The metric system is ONLY used in Mexico, it is an important reminder, especially for American visitors. Please do not erase it. Mexico is a popular destination for American tourists, who may not be acquainted with the metric system. Weight and measures, distances and speed limits are ONLY in the metric system. The Liter and NOT the gallon is used in petrol stations. Many American cars' (especially those produced for the domestic market) speed meters are mostly shown in miles and and fuel depots in gallons. This is should be put to avoid potential problems while speeding and fuelling.

Your undo at Darjeeling sleep-section

[edit]

Dear Claus, thanks for informing me that I'm not allowed to remove subsections. However:

- I regard this division to be arbitrary and hotels charging travellers more than INR 5000 a night can't really be called "Mid Range". So, where to put these?

- Instead, I completed every listing with a price-range in order to let the visitor decide himself what would be appropriate.

- There was a notice that "this section seems to contain commercial plugs and needs editing to restore balance". I did so removing listings without useful informations (like "Hotel soandso, great place to stay").

That's all gone, now. Wouldn't it have made more sense to just re-insert the missing sub-sections?(WT-en) serkhang 15:08, 4 March 2010 (EST)

Calistoga

[edit]

Did you take out the Coffee section of Calistoga, California? If so, why?

I did not take out any sections but only detouted a listing, --(WT-en) ClausHansen 04:10, 6 March 2010 (EST)
Hello again. Thank you for "detouting" the Calistoga page. I think I was a little over zealous when I wrote it. At least now I know what "detouting" is. I do, however, take issue with your subsequent editing. The changes you made at first weren't grammatically correct and the second editing made the first sentence read oddly. I object to the part of your page that says "This user is able to contribute with an advanced level of English." I removed the first sentence from the previous edit.

This is wrong allegations. Dear Claus Hansen

This image of Munnar Road is from Wikipedia, an image from Wikicommons- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Munnar_hillstation_kerala.jpg.

This is licensed to use in all wiki areas by the user. This is a free image and freely available on net. And I own this picture, with permission from its original user- Bimal K.C, a freelancer photographer and my friend, who has given permission to me.

All pictures currently in Kerala page, mostly belongs to wikicommons and used extensively in other wikipedia, thereby licensed use in Wikivoyage.

Another picture- the Athirapally Waterfalls, also a picture I got from Wikicommons, and hence licensed to use in Wikivoyage.

Maps

[edit]

Really well done Claus! Looking at this image:CentralNordsj.png, you really seem to have it cracked now. Excellent map. A few very minor problems with the park labels and the pattern shading, but those are easily put right. Great to have another map maker here as I think it is the single most important thing we do. I will make one request about markup. I have initiated a discussion about this at the Shared pub, as I believe all maps using a CC licenced base source like OpenStreetMap should include a credit and link in the markup. Not too many comments on this yet, but it makes sense to me as we insist on such credits for image sources (Flickr, Commons etc). A suggested map template markup would be:

Denmark

Anyway, the real reason for this message was to say well done!--(WT-en) Burmesedays 08:21, 11 March 2010 (EST)

White works well as a park label when you write over the top of a park pattern and there are no paths and roads in the way, eg here. Otherwise, you might want to try dark grey italics next to the park, as in this example. I think on this particular map, white might still work ok if you use the dejavu condensed bold (must be bold) font. On the shading, I now see what you have done with the dark grey diffusion layer (meaning out of the region) over the top of the water and park shapes which cross the line. That gives the two tone effect on those objects. Not a big thing, but that looks a bit strange to me. I would raise the parks and lakes layer to be above the dark grey diffusion layer - see for example Burundi and DR Congo. That is of course just my own personal opinion :). I hope some of that might prove helpful. Cheers --(WT-en) Burmesedays 08:57, 11 March 2010 (EST)
And Kerala.. more nice work :). My only comment is that the font sizes are much too small. Great having another map maker on board! --(WT-en) Burmesedays 10:16, 13 March 2010 (EST)

Samui South Coast

[edit]

I see you removed a listing from Samui South Coast? This must have been a mistake as Samui South Coast is actually a subdistrict of Ko Samui, that's where the listings are supposed to go. Gondar

Hi Claus. I wrote a section about Gorgora (a beautiful small town near Gondar) but you removed quite a bit of it and split it up so it's no longer clear that it's one section about a different place that you could take an excursion from Gondar to. You also removed details ofan excellent guide who showed us around, who I put the details of up with his permission as I think it would be really helpful to other travellers. Please could you explain why you made these changes and would you mind if I changed it back, as I think it really was better this way?

Many thanks. -MiriamG

Hi Claus, this user seems to speak danish (der er inget at diskutere! Bayersk er et overtysk sprog, men IKKE samme sprog, hvor svaert kan det vaere at forstå det?) and behaves pretty unruly. Would you mind to explain him maybe in his mother tongue that consensus rules and not edit warring? Thank you very much in advance, (WT-en) jan 08:32, 10 May 2010 (EDT)

Nakhon Ratchasima

[edit]

Not sure I agree with the changes you made to Hermitage Hotel. The sentence about it being surrounded by greenery and water was appropriate (IMO) as this marks it out as different from pretty much every other hotel in Korat. Had I just written that it was in a 'nice location' then I could understand the edit. But as I specified why the location was nice I didn't really see the need for the deletion. And why move the sentences about needing a car to get there and the bus to Cambodia to 'Directions'? That was just additional information. I wouldn't be too bothered if those sentences were completely taken out but surely they shouldn't be in 'Directions'.(WT-en) Promphong 01:39, 15 May 2010 (EDT)

I have not removed the sentence about surrounded by gardens and lakes, it is still there, what I took out was mentioning asphalt surroundings of other hotels, no big deal but I do not think that a hotel listings should describe other hotels, plesae expand if you find it appropriate. Additional directions for how to find the place should be in 'Directions', please delete it if you find it is not needed, --(WT-en) ClausHansen 04:16, 15 May 2010 (EDT)

Is "Difficult to get to without a car" a direction? I think it's necessary information but I don't think it's a direction. (WT-en) Promphong 06:17, 15 May 2010 (EDT)

Duesseldorf

[edit]

Hi Claus,

I have seen you have enlaged all photos on the site of Duesseldorf. Do you really think this was a good idea?. It will boost up the amount of data to be downloaded, and not everyone has a fast internet connection. Those who are interested can enlage the photos by themself by clicking on it, the rest will be satisfied by the thumbnails. And think of those guys who print out the article and use it as a guide. They will got much more sheets now, but no more information. And last not least, the big photos cannot allways be located beside the corresponding Article. From my point of view small thumbnails are the best way to supply compacted information and. And to be honest, I have hardly seen other sides with photos of 250px in x-axis. cheers Hans-Jürgen (WT-en) HJWBoEng 12:30, 29 May 2010 (EDT)

250px is standard for normal image thumbnails on WT. It should be possible to see what is on an image when printet and on screen without having to click on it, --(WT-en) ClausHansen 12:49, 29 May 2010 (EDT)

Swedish and German

[edit]

Hello Claus,

I recently saw in the history how a Swiss person (Killerduh) wrote that Swedish and German are largely mutually intelligible and you removed it. Truth be told, that is completely true. I'm Austrian myself, and I speak only Austro-Bavarian, German, English, Slovak and Hungarian and not a word of Swedish, Danish or Norwegian, but I really have to say that Scandinavian languages and especially Swedish is a child's play to understand. Like Killerduh I've spent a lot of time in Sweden (7 times), and the only language I've ever spoken in Sweden to anyone is German (German since Austro-Bavarian is more distant from Swedish), and although almost no one was actually able to speak it (except some older people), they had no problem whatsoever understanding me. Even teenagers were able to understand me, and believe me, they make absolutely no effort to even understand Danish due to their fluency in English (that's what they told me), but it still worked. By no means is there any kind of barrier in communication, I speak German, they speak Swedish, it works perfectly well, and that's it.

Cheers Andreas, proud Viennese

Maltese Babel Template

Just to clarify why the maltese template was removed as language. I intended to complete the set, but had no time doing so yesterday. (WT-en) Skoi 06:30, 4 June 2010 (EDT)

Reviewing Konark

[edit]

Hi Claus,

While I was editing the Konark page, I realised that the template has strecthed out. My display setting is 1200 x 800. I could see the horizontal scrollbar which was uncommon in other templates I have worked (Udaipur, Chittorgarh). Could you please help me to fix it.

Fixed! (it was due to a line starting with a space, which for some reason has the implication you describe above), --(WT-en) ClausHansen 13:08, 4 June 2010 (EDT)

PNG Other Destinations

[edit]

Don't understand the logic of your recent edit. On the United States page there is a link to Grand Canyon. There is also a link to Grand Canyon from the Arizona page. By the logic of your deletions on the PNG page we should delete Grand Canyon from the US page. What is Other destinations for if not to highlight interesting places for people to learn about without going through the whole sequence of Country-Region-, etc.? (WT-en) Shep 02:01, 6 June 2010 (EDT)

Other destinations are national parks and other destinations that are not cities. Grand Canyon is a national park and, therefore, listed as an other destination. The ones I deleted in PNG are cities, which should be in the list of cities, regions which should only be in the list of regions, and itineraries which should be in the see section, --(WT-en) ClausHansen 02:10, 6 June 2010 (EDT)
I can agree to New Britain going out. I didn't put it there. But Tufi is not really a city, more an area. You don't visit Tufi town for the sake of the town but for the attractions in the area. I will think of other ways to steer people to Bulolo and Wau, perhaps by refering to them in the main text of the page. (WT-en) Shep 06:32, 6 June 2010 (EDT)
Islands are valid Other destinations. It is a moot point if an island which is a region could also be included as an OD...... this has been done several times in other articles. I will put a copy of this on the PNG talk page, which is where the discussion should really be happening.--(WT-en) Burmesedays 23:50, 6 June 2010 (EDT)

Konark: deleted info not specific to the city

[edit]

Hi Claus. I'm surprised to find that all my hard work has been deleted (with comments - 'deleted info not specific to the city'). First, the entire piece is a product of research work from my own travel to temple architectures of India, websites that contain key and updated information on Konark. The work instead that you have Undo is factual sloppy, lacks narrative, and key travel information.

If you could explain your thoughts it will be helpful. - Regards, Rahul

Rahul, I deleted your very well written description of northern and southern Indian temple architecture. I did that because I found that the description does not have any specific relation to Konark but could just as well be put in any other Indian city featuring important temples. I see no reason why this description should be hidden in the Konark article, rather it should be incorporated in the India article. I hope this does not discourage you from continuing to contribute to the Indian articles, they really need som attention! Dindigul District

[edit]

Dindigul district is a district in the state of Tamilnadu and it is clearly mentioned that Dindigul city is the capital of this district. So this can not be merged to Dindigul city as the places mentioned in this page are in the Dindigul district and not in the main dindigul city. For more information, Pls go thru official site for the governmanet http://www.dindigul.tn.nic.in/

I would like to remove the tag .. merge city.. LEt me know pls

(WT-en) Kbala1055 03:56, 10 June 2010 (EDT)

Southwestern Tamil Nadu is so far not subdivided in subregions (except for Dindigul District). This is why I suggest we merge the district article into the city article. However, the Southwestern Tamil Nadu article does have more than nine linked cities which is an argument for subdividing (ie keeping Dindigul District region article, establishing the other three region articles and moving cities to the respective region articles). I would prefer to wait with the further sub-regionalisation until the present articles are further developed, but either way is fine for me. Anyhow, it is a mess to have an article for Dindigul District and not for the other three districts, --(WT-en) ClausHansen 04:24, 10 June 2010 (EDT)
(I have moved this discussion to talk:Southwestern Tamil Nadu where it should continue, --(WT-en) ClausHansen 04:24, 10 June 2010 (EDT))

Hi Claus, I would like to remove the tag for Merging.. LEt me know if I can (WT-en) Kbala1055 10:09, 15 June 2010 (EDT)

Potability of water in Asunción

[edit]

Hi Claus, I've undone your reversion of my edit, and added references. Please do not revert it again unless you have references to the contrary. Also note that it's customary to give a reason when reverting. --190.128.166.18 21:00, 1 July 2010 (EDT)

Sorry about that, I should only have reverted the remark in square brackets. I have deleted the links, though, see xl, --(WT-en) ClausHansen 04:18, 2 July 2010 (EDT)

Deletion of dive site?

[edit]

We saw that you've deleted the dive site Dive site Vagnhärad limestone quarry without (as far as we can see) any reason given. We would be happy to know if the guidelines was not followed or what the idea was. Because we do think there is place for this articles. So it is better you improve the article instead of removing it.

Sorry for not explaining why. The reason is that the dive site is not a destination (it does not have a place to sleep and does therefore not qualify for an article) but is rather an attraction or activity, which should be listed within the relevant destination article (Stockholm, I guess), --(WT-en) ClausHansen 02:17, 9 July 2010 (EDT)

Hi. The mention of the town you removed here seems to be useful to me, at least until an article dedicated to Iskrets gets started. Would you mind if I restore that? Or was that moved to somewhere I am not aware of? (WT-en) Vidimian 05:24, 5 August 2010 (EDT)

I searched the net and found almost no mentioning of Iskrets and concluded that it is just another village. Therefore, I see no reason to redlink to this, --(WT-en) ClausHansen 06:32, 5 August 2010 (EDT)
Yes, you're right, that seems like just another village. While "Iskrets", "Iskrec", and "Искрец" (alternative spellings of the village's name) turns up lots of results in google, none of them seems important enough from a travelling perspective. I failed to check google before just because the description read like that's a nice place to be in. (WT-en) Vidimian 06:54, 5 August 2010 (EDT)

South Ossetia

[edit]

Hi, Claus. Re: this edit, the Caucasus article still says to see Georgia (country) for South Ossetia, but you've made it a country-level region. Doesn't Georgia still claim the territory? (WT-en) LtPowers 09:12, 9 August 2010 (EDT)

I made that change to be consistent with Abkhazia and Nagorno-Karabakh. South Ossetia was a sub-sub-region of Georgia, which appears to be undesirable. Further, in the Georgia (country) article it is stated that the disputed areas are excluded from the regional hierarchy proper, --(WT-en) ClausHansen 09:46, 9 August 2010 (EDT)
Then I would say they need to be included as top-level subregions of Caucasus. Maybe discuss it on Talk:Caucasus? (WT-en) LtPowers 14:38, 9 August 2010 (EDT)
It's more problematic with South Ossetia than Abkhazia, as the S.O. "government" wields neither de facto nor de jure sovereignty over the country. --(WT-en) Peter Talk 19:51, 10 August 2010 (EDT)

Polish IsPartOf

[edit]

I see you've been changing many Polish IsPartOf-tags. This is a lot of work, and before you start with it, I think it's better if we first finish the Poland regions scheme. In the future, they'll probably have to be changed anyway (using the Polish names for the voivodships already goes against Wikivoyage policy of using the most common English name). --(WT-en) globe-trotter 14:51, 13 August 2010 (EDT)

Thank you for mentioning it. I am aware that Poland and many other countries have not found their final regional structure, but I think the breadcrumb should work anyway, --(WT-en) ClausHansen 14:58, 13 August 2010 (EDT)
Great work on Switzerland! I have now implemented the new regional structure of Poland, so a lot of Breadcrumb fixing to do. I've already spent my whole day getting the regional structure in place and fixing the regions pages. It looks a lot better already, but still a lot to do there. Soon we'll have all of Europe tidied up :) --(WT-en) globe-trotter 17:44, 14 August 2010 (EDT)

Regions

[edit]

Saint Martins Island and Mykonos both had the regionguide template already marking them as regions. I was simply updating the guide template to use that specification. Do you think islands like this should be considered cities instead of regions? --(WT-en) Bill in STL 02:40, 3 September 2010 (EDT)

Thanks. I see that the policies show islands such as these should use city template instead of region, so they should never have had the original regionguide. I changed both articles to use cityguide and guidecity. --(WT-en) Bill in STL 21:54, 15 September 2010 (EDT)

Timestamps

[edit]

Hi Claus,

Can you explain why you are deleting timestamps in prices?

zurich-> 10:23, 7 September 2010 ClausHansen (Talk | contribs) (78,707 bytes) (deleted time stamp) (undo)

IMHO this is equally important as the amount itself. Prices do change rapidly and if i see a timestamp of a price marked with 2005 i am usually tempted to update it...

Geert

I agree with Geert, specially in countries with more than 10% inflation a year and not so many contributors to update the data as Mongolia. Paper guidebooks of Mongolia are obsolete long before their next edition. The reader needs to know how old is the information. If you don't need such a piece of information, just skip it, but let it there for others. --(WT-en) Fiable.biz 12:39, 23 October 2010 (EDT)

Yunnan Map

[edit]

Claus, thx for the great work. However, would just like to point out that in your Yunnan map, it should be "Guangxi," not 'Guangdong"

You are right, I will change that, --(WT-en) ClausHansen 14:00, 7 December 2010 (EST)

Hong Kong

[edit]

Hi Claus, I am so happy to see that you are spending time sorting out the Hong Kong pages. This is tedious work that requires skill to get it right. May I ask, in your opinion, what needs to be done to make the main Hong Kong a Star? I sense that we must be close? There are some tedious style issues, like "am" instead of "PM" being used. Anyway, keep warm if you are in Beijing, it's still relatively mild down here in Hong Kong. (WT-en) Herngong 18:10, 19 December 2010 (EST)

Thank you for noticing my work. All district articles will have to be at least guide status before the main article can be a star, so I guess we are quite far away from that goal, --(WT-en) ClausHansen 03:18, 20 December 2010 (EST)

Changes for the worse

[edit]

Hi Claus, you edited two of my articles, Chuxiong and Congjiang. Both changes take away legitimate information and add nothing but mistakes that are detrimental to the articles' quality. I would just go ahead and revert them, but you seem to be an experienced member of this community. I'd like to hear about your motivation for those changes before doing so.

The edits in question are:

--(WT-en) gs 13:19, 8 April 2011 (EDT)

Hi Claus. Understand now that this is a regional article. But you have removed all my content including the lede and image about the heath. Also the restaurant info should not be deleted, but moved to the relevant town article. I have put in a lot of work that has now gone down the drain. --(WT-en) SaxonWarrior 03:00, 6 May 2011 (EDT)

I do apologise. I was on a different computer and, bizarrely, it just showed the article as it was before I started editing it and I thought everything had been reverted. Now I'm home, I see the article has not been changed at all. Very odd. Anyway, sorry about that. I will now look at moving the restaurant info to the relevant town article, creating them if necessary. Questions: should we remove headings like "Eat" if they are not required? Is stuff on places to go still okay? I am hoping to develop articles on the entire region over time. --(WT-en) SaxonWarrior 07:07, 6 May 2011 (EDT)

time formats revisited

[edit]

Given your interest in the time formats discussion and/or the star nomination that was almost sidelined over this matter, I thought I should let you know I've reopened the discussion. Hopefully (unlikely perhaps, but hopefully) we can reach a more definitive conclusion on this matter. (WT-en) PerryPlanet Talk 00:44, 23 June 2011 (EDT)

Yunnan map

[edit]

Hey Claus. I was looking at the Yunnan map and it is almost impossible to read the labels - they are a lot too small. Went to fetch the SVG to put that right but it has not been uploaded. Be great if you could upload. Hope all is well with you.--(WT-en) Burmesedays 05:21, 31 July 2011 (EDT)

I will try to look for that, --(WT-en) ClausHansen 06:49, 31 July 2011 (EDT)
Found and uploaded, --(WT-en) ClausHansen 07:39, 12 August 2011 (EDT)
Thanks Claus. Made a few little stylistic changes and I think the map is now more legible. --(WT-en) Burmesedays 10:35, 12 August 2011 (EDT)

Hey, thanks a lot for your work on Brazilian region maps. I just saw this one and I have a couple of suggestions. First, I think all four colors in the color scheme are too similar. At first glance I though it was all one color. Could you maybe replace them with colors that are a little less washed-out? Second, the rivers on the left side of the map are supposed to match up with the state borders, but they are offset quite a bit in some places. Looks rather weird, don't you think? (WT-en) texugo 22:47, 6 August 2011 (EDT)

Done, --(WT-en) ClausHansen 07:39, 7 August 2011 (EDT)
Looks better. Thanks! (WT-en) texugo 12:03, 9 August 2011 (EDT)

On that note, and again expressing my appreciation that you are making these Brazil maps, I have a couple of suggestion on the South Brazil region map.

 • Rio Grande do Sul looks a bit weird without its two big lakes. Could we possibly get those in there?
 • All the roads you put on the map are N-S roads, giving it an odd striated look, while there are actually important W-E roads too that I'd like to see represented, such as BR277, BR369, BR280, BR285, etc..
 • I think the selection of 9 cities is a little off; it even contains cities that didn't even make the cut of 9 cities at the states level. There should probably be a discussion about which 9 are best (as well as to add some more Other destinations). For now though, I'd say that at the very least we need to take off Vila Velha and Rio Grande and add Londrina and Santa Maria.

Other destinations of Brazil

[edit]

Hey, I went ahead and made the changes to Other destinations of the Brasil article. When you get a change, could you update the map to match? Thanks a lot! (WT-en) texugo 10:26, 12 August 2011 (EDT)

Will do, --(WT-en) ClausHansen 16:01, 12 August 2011 (EDT)

Stockholm districts

[edit]

Hi Claus,

first & foremost, apologies for wasting your time by stupidly listing Stockholm eateries on the main page rather than on the district pages.

At the beginning of the Stockholm page you list the districts, but maybe it could be emphasised more that travellers should consult the district pages, in the same way that the London page does, so that numbskulls like me actually get the message? (WT-en) FTMDave 20:03, 19 August 2011 (CET)

Re:Welcome

[edit]

(Very late) thanks for the welcome! Sorry if I messed the external links a little in San Sebastian; I didn't know about the guideline for external link formatting. I'll take that into account from now on. Cheers, (WT-en) Waldir 13:55, 12 July 2012 (EDT)
