Welcome

[edit]

Hello, GnarlyLikeWhoa! Welcome to Wikivoyage.

To help get you started contributing, we've created a tips for new contributors page, full of helpful links about policies and guidelines and style, as well as some important information on copyleft and basic stuff like how to edit a page. If you need help, check out Project:Help, or post a message in the travellers' pub.

Please refrain from abusive comments, and remember to assume good faith. Before making bold, accusatory assertions, you should try to get to know the site a little betterwe do have an article on gay and lesbian travel. --(WT-en) Peter Talk 14:21, 29 July 2009 (EDT)

With regards to this comment:

In addition, I wasn't aware I even had to give a reason for my vote. If I do, sorry! Maybe I should have consulted you before I cast my vote for Obama

If you would like your opinions to be considered seriously please assume good faith and try to converse with others respectfully. If you read the top of the Project:Votes for deletion page it states clearly:

When leaving comments:
  1. First read the deletion policy and verify that the article or image really is a candidate for deletion.
  2. You may vote to delete, keep, or redirect the article. If your opinion is that the article should be kept or redirected, please state why. Sign your vote using four tildes ("~~~~").

I apologize if this comment comes across harshly, but especially for a new contributor you'll need to work a bit harder to understand how this site works without resorting to sarcasm and attacks on other contributors. -- (WT-en) Ryan • (talk) • 13:04, 30 July 2009 (EDT)

Humor and irreverence are welcome as basic components of lively travel writing. However, you will have to make an extra effort for it to work in an international collaborative article. Avoid sarcasm as it often doesn't work well in written form or across cultural boundaries. Avoid making fun of a person or group, as someone will miss the point and take offence. Avoid inside jokes, and humor that requires local knowledge - remember the reader is a traveller.
Ryan, all I was doing was adding humor to what I was writing, not sarcasm. Geez, I was only participating in lively travel writing. --(WT-en) GnarlyLikeWhoa 14:55, 30 July 2009 (EDT)
Fair enough. As several people have now commented about your "lively travel writing" I'll refrain from any further comment. -- (WT-en) Ryan (talk) 15:20, 30 July 2009 (EDT)
Allow me to let you in on a little secret. I'm not a troll. Seeing the world is more important to me than anything.
People here are irritated with me because I don't conform to their mentalities, I object on behalf of the side with the least represenation. Objection is the only way the world has gotten anywhere. There is nothing wrong with robust, heated debate. --(WT-en) GnarlyLikeWhoa 15:33, 30 July 2009 (EDT)--
Provided it is intellectual, constructive debate, rather than just trying to press people's buttons and wasting people's time. You do come across strongly as a troll , and if you want your participation here to bear any fruit, you should consider why and how to change this impression. And you have not yet done any travel writing; rather you have gravitated towards goofing around on the vfd page, without having read the deletion policy... --(WT-en) Peter Talk 19:45, 30 July 2009 (EDT)
No. --(WT-en) GnarlyLikeWhoa 20:11, 30 July 2009 (EDT)

If you are an employee of Internet Brands, please post that information on your user page for full disclosure. If you are not, I for one would like to know why you are using an IB internet address... -- (WT-en) Colin 19:57, 31 July 2009 (EDT)
