Excellent work on New Orleans

So, you've done some really great work on New Orleans and the associated districts. I did want to drop you a few links, including the huge city article template, district article template, restaurant listings, attraction listings, and bar listings. Okay. I'm going to stop working on the New Orleans pages for a while to avoid the edit conflicts. One thing I feel strongly about is that "Live music" (or some similar wording) does deserve to be its own section, especially for places like New Orleans where many visitors come with music as one of their priorities. The templates are flexible, but things like live music are going to be in practically any city. We have "Drink" now for a section that should probably be called "Nightlife" or some such thing. All our section headers have short, sharp names that are pretty distinctive, so I don't think Nightlife is a good one. "Go out" might work, but it's a little close to "Get out". Fairmount

Hi, great work on NO! I was just wondering why you removed the Fairmount-- is it closed or just not worth recommending any more? It's helpful to note why when your removing a listing (we make it to New Orleans at least once a year, so I'm also just curious). Thanks. (WT-en) Maj 20:46, 5 January 2007 (EST)

Originally word had been that they were planning on reopening, which is why I hadn't removed it earlier, more recently word is that at least part of the hotel buildings may be redeveloped as condominiums and there is no even projected date for reopening the hotel. Yes, this is a surprise given that this has been one of the city's best know hotels for generations, and other places that got much more damage have reopened some time ago. There are a number of good hotels in the area functioning (including the Ritz Carlton across Canal), but for now no Fairmont. I'll readd it should that be appropriate. Image licenses

Thanks for relicensing the images. IMHO CC by-sa 3.0 images are fine, but a rather overly zealous user has been VFD'ing all images that aren't 1.0-licensed because he thinks they're not acceptable -- hopefully this will soon be sorted out. (WT-en) Jpatokal 13:08, 1 February 2008 (EST)

Mother in Law Lounge

Actually, we do have an article for St Roch: New Orleans/St Roch-Florida. Do you think it would make sense to extend its border over to the Esplanade to include more of the 7th ward? I was just noticing that! Great work since last time I had a chance to take an extended look here! And I see you found some of my photos on Flickr :-) Yeah, I was thinking of something like a "7th Ward and St. Roch" article, and you beat me to part of it. I'd add that slice east of Treme and on the river side of Claiborne/I-10 to that rather than Mid-City; I've never heard anyone talk about that area as being part of Mid-City. There's actually no application process, you can just add yourself by writing {{hasDocent|Infrogmation}} to the end of the New Orleans article. It's nice to also explain that you are a docent on your user page, and link back to the Project:Docents article. It's not an idea that has really taken off, but it's still a nice thing.

And yes, I had an incredible time in your amazing city! Such a good time that I'm planning a return next year, maybe for French Quarter Fest, since I haven't spent much time in the Quarter (I avoided it during Mardi Gras). --(WT-en) Peter ^Talk 18:06, 25 June 2011 (EDT)

Music venues

Just a heads up: we generally put bars that serve as music venues under "Drink" rather than "Do." Concert halls go under "Do," but any sort of nightlife spot winds up under "Drink." --(WT-en) Peter ^Talk 20:36, 29 June 2011 (EDT)

I won't be able to work on maps until sometime next week, as I'm leaving my P.C. in D.C. while I stay in the mountains. As a New Orleanian who enjoys live music, that Wikivoyage doesn't even commonly have sections for live music in cities seems strange. But as I've added to the New Orleans article, live music seems to be a much more important part of the local culture than it is some other places. (I've traveled enough to know there are other places where music is important to life, but that it is far from universal.) As to changing the sections, I just found it annoying to see music venues where you can't even buy so much as a cola tagged with "drink". I think the standard should be more -- is it a place people are making a destination because they want to hear music, or a place where people are going because they want to get some drinks? I'm making that my standard at least in New Orleans. (There are occasional places that are both, but that's not common. I guess similar to how some business may be a both a popular and noted restaurant and a popular and noted bar.) Enjoy your time in the mountains. Studio in the Woods

I'm familiar with it. It is mostly an artists' retreat. It's only open to the public for occasional special events. It's a long drive from anything else near the end of a long dead-end road. Not really a vistors' attraction. (WT-en) Infrogmation 07:36, 19 July 2011 (EDT)

FQ restaurants

The restaurant list for the FQ is daunting—44 in total, which is longer than any other article I can think of! It should be long, of course, but could you possibly help me trim it a bit, maybe removing some 10 restaurants? It's making the map impossible! I know enough to know that Central Grocery, Clover Grill, Coop's, Bayona, Tujague's, and everything in the Splurge section should certainly stay. But I'm really not that familiar with the Quarter to go much beyond that. I'll hopefully rectify that unfamiliarity next month, but I wanted to at least get a good map up for the FQ and Marigny before my next trip. --(WT-en) Peter ^Talk 19:32, 29 March 2012 (EDT)

Hm, I would have thought that if anything we didn't have enough listings of the great variety in the Quarter! I don't really know that the list needs trimming. I'm not as familiar with the FQ at present as I had been -- I used to often spend half a day there at least once a week, but for more than a year have been gradually recovering from major leg surgery and haven't been up to my former custom of hours long walks. (What I've kept with in the FQ and CBD -- the two neighborhoods I don't expect to find parking within half a dozen blocks-- has mostly been second hand from friends and media.) I'd guess there should be no obligation to include everything listed in the map. In addition to what you mention above, the location of Cafe du Monde is another must however. Gumbo Shop would be the next level down as an historic landmark restaurant. For other significant places a bit further down I'd say Bayona, Coops, Green Goddess, Johnny's, Louisiana Pizza Kitchen, Mona Lisa, Port of Call, Stanley's. KKProjects

I noticed that you removed the listing for the KKProjects. Have they been demolished? If not, I think it's a colorful and interesting enough listing to warrant inclusion.
