Hi Oldpine. I think they are not contrary to the Wikivoyage policy; This is not a map service, nor a personal photo gallery. It is the selection of millions of users showing the best and most interesting photos of the city. I think it is a perfect source to get a good sense of a city before you visit it. This is exactly the mail goal of Wikivoyage! So I will put some links back, but maybe better in a diffent part of the page. What you think about this suggestion: put them under 'Do', for example "Visit Berlin [1], a virtual tour through the city". (WT-en) RonaldR 06:26, 9 August 2007 (EDT)

Ronald, there's a right way and a wrong way to go about this. The wrong way is to just add external links. That's clearly against policy, and they should be removed.

The right way is to convince us to add your site to our interwiki-linking policy, and our delegations. You might start by adding some licensing, and terms of service information to your site. I couldn't find either.

Anyhow the usual requirement for interwiki links is that the site have a wiki nature, which means that anybody can edit, that it have an Open Content license, and that it be global. -- (WT-en) Mark 06:56, 9 August 2007 (EDT)

Removed some additions on talk pages

I reverted your addition of the same message—a plug for your site—to a large number of article talk pages. Sorry, I just wanted some discussion on several pages on linking to WorldFlicks pages. I think it fits with the external linking policy, I don't see any point where it doesnt fit. Right here. So far the discussion has only been about whether to allow links to WorldFlicks, and it appears that the existing consensus is that the WorldFlicks links do not fit because they are not official, primary sources, and hence are not allowed per the Project:External links policy. That is also a fine place to suggest non-link related cooperation between the two sites, if you have such suggestions. The only thing that comes to my mind would be to have indirect cooperation by adopting similar image licensing, so that we could share images more easily. But adding lots of links around the site will invariably not be viewed as generating discussion, but rather as spam. --(WT-en) Peter ^Talk 17:02, 9 March 2008 (EDT)

Just a note to say I agree with Peter on this one. By my count there are now four pointers on this page to Project:External links (that makes five) as the place to discuss whether your site should be an exception to policy. Your intention may be to improve Wikivoyage, but be aware that by ignoring the existing external link policy, as well as advice on this talk page, it makes your link additions appear to be the self-promotion that the external link policy is trying to prevent, rather than a well-intentioned attempt to create useful guides for travelers. -- (WT-en) Ryan • (talk) • 17:08, 9 March 2008 (EDT)
