OK Jan, thank you! (WT-en) TravelStoreMaker.com 12:50, 24 March 2010 (EDT)

Please have a look at Project:Don't tout and Project:Accomodation listings. And edit such as this one is inappropriate - you are changing a listing into market-ese, something we definitely don't want on Wikivoyage. Maybe this guideline will help you - if you are writing something that you wouldn't expect to read in a Lonely Planet, Moon Guide, or other printed travel guide then it's not appropriate for Wikivoyage. -- (WT-en) Ryan • (talk) • 13:19, 24 March 2010 (EDT)

Hi Ryan, I hope everything is OK now. (WT-en) TravelStoreMaker.com 08:44, 25 March 2010 (EDT)

While it may be better from an SEO standpoint to have "5 star", "London" and "Mayfair" in the listing, the policies above are clear about describing the establishment, not the neighborhood. "Individually designed suites and rooms by Guy Oliver. Recently opened Hélène Darroze's restaurant, a Michelin-starred French chef." is a far more useful description than "The Connaught is a 5 star luxury hotel situated in the heart of the fashionable Mayfair, London." -- (WT-en) Ryan • (talk) • 10:53, 25 March 2010 (EDT)

Reverts[edit]

Regarding this edit, it was almost certainly reverted due to the lack of any useful information about the hotel. As noted in SEO, describe the hotel, not the neighborhood, and include price ranges. -- (WT-en) Ryan • (talk) • 12:19, 21 April 2010 (EDT)

The reason for this [1] is simple: Wikivoyage is not meant to be a vehicle for advertising. There were problems with your entry, such as: no price info, extended url for SEO purposes (which is misguided, since we have enabled nofollow for urls to deter advertising agencies), zero useful info in the description, etc.). But the main point is that you are using Wikivoyage for advertising, and this runs counter to the purpose of the website. Indeed, it is a huge problem for our website, affecting its very credibility.
Have you even been to this hotel? Do you know anything about it other than that they are paying you to list it here? Unless you are adding listings to articles that have weak sleep sections, where your added listing is really well formatted and filled out, I'll likely revert the addition. And as I see my purpose here (for which I am not being paid) to be to improve the site by keeping it free of spam, contributing good travel writing, and illustrating the guides, rather than helping SEO agencies, I probably won't spend the time to leave a comment in the edit summary. --(WT-en) Peter Talk 12:25, 21 April 2010 (EDT)

OK, Peter, I hope it looks alright now. I just want to let you know that the URL we provided can't be shortened. (WT-en) TravelStoreMaker.com 12:50, 21 April 2010 (EDT) OK, so now I really don't see what's the reason for the deletion. I've read your post very thoroughly and I followed all the rules when posting the hotel. (WT-en) TravelStoreMaker.com 03:46, 22 April 2010 (EDT)

Ryan, do you have any idea what's the reason for the deletion? (WT-en) TravelStoreMaker.com 03:47, 22 April 2010 (EDT)

The reasons for the deletion are made very clear in Peter's reply and I am not sure why you don't understand? On the subject of a shortened url - if there is not one then just use the general ICHotels address. We absolutely do not want those ridiculously long complex urls that hotel groups use these days as they mess up the guide when it is printed. Just to reiterate, there is zero SEO benefit to the hotel by including these urls as all Wiktiravel links are now marked no follow. If you can complete the listing as suggested, complete with price, sensible url etc, then there is a fair chance it will not be deleted. Don't be surprised though that Wiktiravel gives priority to traveller-written listings over those from marketing agents like yourselves.--(WT-en) Burmesedays 05:32, 22 April 2010 (EDT)

So the only reason for the deletion is the URL? We could fix that, if that's the only problem. We know that there's a "no follow" tag for the URLs, so our purpose is not a link to the hotel's site, but an online presence. Every other field is correctly filled and we're not sure if the editors view the changes. We understand that you give priority to the reviews by the real guests of the hotels, but if SEO companies aren't allowed to post articles in WikiTravel, just say it in your rules. We provided the full information required and a very short and informative description and hope the only problem was the URL. (WT-en) TravelStoreMaker.com 05:43, 22 April 2010 (EDT)

No. The url is only one of the reasons. Please read Peter's comment again: the price field is not completed nor do you actually give any useful information about the hotel - its facilities for example. All the prose about the location is unnecessary - we already know where it is and what is nearby, as it is placed in the Paris/9th arrondissement article. I think you would find it helpful to re-read Project:Accomodation_listings. I hope that is helpful. --(WT-en) Burmesedays 05:51, 22 April 2010 (EDT)

Looks like you don't even look at the changes we make. Please look at the last change we made, not the first one: http://en.wikivoyage.org/w/index.php?title=Paris/9th_arrondissement&diff=1438740&oldid=1438675 There is a price given and the useful information in 1 sentence (not including description of the place). (WT-en) TravelStoreMaker.com 06:06, 22 April 2010 (EDT)

No one has a "right" to list their business here, and we do indeed frown upon marketing agency involvement. I'll just repeat myself verbatim, and make use of bold text this time:
