Thanks for your edits to the Portland article! Although, the number of pictures of businesses added feels a little much and I'm not sure how much they add to the article. In particular, the shots of the Delta Cafe, Pine State Biscuits, Byways Cafe, Mission Theater, and Jupiter Hotel feel very dead: there's no people in them! It makes it look like the place is closed! Not to mention all the shots are so small on the page it's hard to make out much detail in any of them. Could we cut down on the number of pics and enlarge the rest?
However, I give you major kudos for that new skyline shot. That old lead image was boooooooooring... PerryPlanet (talk) 20:01, 9 February 2013 (UTC)
- Hmm, well, personally I would prefer a greater number of small images, but that's just my personal preference. I can always click on a picture if I wish to view a larger version. I was wondering, though, if Wikivoyage, had a policy on including images of certain businesses within a given section over others, which might seem like promotion or favoritism. My preference would be for more generic images that are less promotional, such as public transportation, public art, airports, bridges, historic sites, landmarks, etc. These, to me, are more important when learning about a city than viewing images of random restaurants. --Another Believer (talk) 00:41, 16 February 2013 (UTC)
- I prefer larger images, just so we don't force people to have to click on them for a larger view -- they get to see what we're referring to at a glance. Anything that reduces the amount of clicks is nice. Also, bear in mind that we want people to be able to print out these guides, and a bunch of tiny images on a piece of paper does no one any good.
- As to your second point, we do tend to shy away from pictures of businesses, per Wikivoyage:Image policy#Photos of businesses, for pretty much the reason you mentioned. That isn't to say there can be no pictures of businesses, but the pictures should be illustrative of what travelers will find or something particularly noteworthy.
