Hello Back ache! Welcome to Wikivoyage.

To help get you started contributing, we've created a tips for new contributors page, full of helpful links about policies and guidelines and style, as well as some important information on copyleft and basic stuff like how to edit a page.

If you are a Wikipedian then you may notice some differences in policies and the style of our articles. These include:

It may also be very useful for you to check out Wikivoyage:Welcome, Wikipedians. If you need help, take a look at Wikivoyage:Help, or else post a message in the travellers' pub or on my talk page. Thanks for contributing!

I would encourage you not to create stubs, but instead to create articles using the appropriate article template, most commonly the "small city" article template. I'd highly recommend for you to read Wikivoyage:How to start a new page. And please note this part:

To add a outline template to your new article automatically, just click on the "City", "Region" etc links at the top of the page.

Keep in mind that on a travel guide, there are a lot of topics that don't merit their own articles. These include not only subjects that are not travel-related, but also most attractions, which are usually listed in "See" listings in articles for the town they're in or the nearest town. Please have a look at Wikivoyage:What is an article?

Of course, it's more important for you to add content than to read all of these links right away, but knowing things like not to copy and paste directly from Wikipedia like you did in the Torre del Mar article - which therefore had to be deleted - would help. See Wikivoyage:Copyleft.

Let us know if you have any questions.

All the best,

Nothing says welcome like some passive-aggressive boilerplate text :-( Back ache (talk) 11:44, 7 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

That post was an effort to be informative and I spent time (I'd estimate 15-20 minutes) composing it especially for you. Everything from "I would encourage you" on was typed out and hand-linked by me, including time searching for the right links and posting a quote that I thought would be most useful.
Have you participated in other wikis? Did no-one engage in any discussions with you about preexisting guidelines and conventions that had been developed on that wiki? This is a collaborative medium. We need more good editors and are happy to have you! However, no-one works in a vacuum here, so if you can't bear to have any pointers thrown your way, no-one is keeping you here. Otherwise, please try to be a little less defensive, because in no way was my message intended to be confrontational. Ikan Kekek (talk) 08:31, 8 April 2016 (UTC)Reply
Hi Ikan, it was nice to hear you were coming from a good place. I have been writing Wiki type articles for over a decade and had my first hypertext job in '92. I write articles iteratively from the ground-up within the wiki environment and had hoped to add the knowledge of my years of visiting Nerja its surrounding resorts. I will think about what you have said but to be honest I currently feel my motivation has gone. Back ache (talk) 06:40, 23 May 2016 (UTC)Reply
It's totally up to you, but if you do choose to edit here, you are more than welcome to do so, and people are here to work with you and discuss anything you want to talk about.
All the best,
