- Hi Cowdy, Welcome to Wikivoyage. I hope you find it entertaining and worthwhile. Cheers, • • • Peter (Southwood) (talk): 07:48, 14 January 2013 (UTC)
- Nice start to Diving in South Australia. Have you seen Diving the Cape Peninsula and False Bay? It's one of the best guides we have on Wikivoyage (so don't feel too intimidated) and can provide a good idea of what to incorporate into Diving in South Australia.AHeneen (talk) 07:25, 17 January 2013 (UTC)
Positions for South Australia dive sites
[edit]Hi Cowdy, I am putting together a fairly high resolution coastal map of South Australia, mainly to show the dive sites. It will take a while, but once the basic map is done I would like to put on a layer for dive sites. Would you be able to get geographical coordinates for the sites in the article? Cheers, • • • Peter (Southwood) (talk): 19:20, 23 February 2013 (UTC)
- Hi Peter, I can do provide geographical coordinates. What is the best way of forwarding the information to you?Cowdy001 (talk) 11:35, 25 February 2013 (UTC)
- Easiest is just a text list, either on my talk page or on the Diving in SA talk page. If you have the option I prefer to work in ddmm.mmm format (decimal minute) Cheers, • • • Peter (Southwood) (talk): 15:46, 24 April 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks Peter, will do this in the near future.Cowdy001 (talk) 11:41, 25 April 2013 (UTC)

Map of Neptune Islands
[edit]I can produce a map in short order if you can let me know the range you want. Coordinates of two diagonally opposite corners is sufficient. I have svgs of the whole SA costline which can be blown up to as much detail as available on the charts. • • • Peter (Southwood) (talk): 15:46, 24 April 2013 (UTC)
- Not as easy as I thought. Nautical charts I have show very little detail. I need to get something at a higher resilution. Do you have anything I could work from? • • • Peter (Southwood) (talk): 16:02, 24 April 2013 (UTC)
- Firstly, the extent of the map - there is a URL in the email that I sent you. Alternatively, you can use the extent shown on the following - http://www.environment.sa.gov.au/files/80004e62-91a2-47ec-adbc-a11701272bdf/mp-gen-map-7-neptuneislands.pdf. BTW, it is desirable to show the boundary of the Neptune Island Conservation Park. Secondly, the best source is a paper chart known as AUS 343 - Whidbey Isles to Cape Du Couedic which I do not own; I do have copies of adjoining charts AUS 342 and AUS 134 as these show the coastline of Eyre Peninsula. The latter charts have lots of soundings and associated depth contours which suggest that AUS 343 would show contours around the Neptune Islands. You can see a very low-resolution version at http://mdnautical.com/m-australia/10049-whidbey-isles-to-cape-du-couedic-.html. Unfortunately, at the moment, I cannot think of anyone whom I personally know and who would have a copy of AUS 343. I did look online for academic and government reports that may contain maps with contours - the best find was the following where ‘Figure 1’ shows the 100 m depth contour to be south of the islands as well as some contours around both islands - http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S027277141200193X. I will scan a portion from an obsolete chart (AUS 1762 - Gulf St Vincent and Approaches) and email it to you. This has some detail. Regards Cowdy001 (talk) 11:40, 25 April 2013 (UTC)
- I have managed to make a pretty good coastal outline based on photographic images, but the underwater detail is missing. I will post it here as soon as I have added the conservation boundaries, and a copy of my best information for depths etc. • • • Peter (Southwood) (talk): 14:15, 25 April 2013 (UTC)

- This is what I have at present. The outline detail for the island coastlines in the upper image is adequate, but the snapshot of the contours shows very little detail. I can combine the two if nothing better is available. • • • Peter (Southwood) (talk): 15:27, 25 April 2013 (UTC)
- Hi Peter, I will send the scan promised above within the next 30 minutes. As AUS 1762 does not appear to offer any additional detail, I think the merge is the way to go.Cowdy001 (talk) 00:36, 26 April 2013 (UTC)
- Latest version is best approximation of depth contours from my charts. I will check against yours when it arrives. Have changed park borders to dotted lines and made the park area transparent so depths are not obscured, but can change if you want something different. I can add spot depths from the charts if you want, but doubt they will be helpful. Cheers, • • • Peter (Southwood) (talk): 07:28, 26 April 2013 (UTC)
- I am trying to work out the extent of the maps for Rapid Bay Jetty, Port Noarlunga Aquatic Reserve, Second Valley and Edithburgh. First problem - there is no marker on the google map reference for Edithburgh unless it is same as Port Victor etc. Second problem, I have to compare the google map with my chart to estimate where to start and where to stop. I have found the general areas for Rapid Bay, Second valley, Port Victor and Port Noarlunga, but it is not easy to see just where to start and stop. If you could provide lat/long coordinates for the corners of the maps you want it will save me a lot of searching and guessing, and we will know that the maps will be of the correct areas. Cheers, • • • Peter (Southwood) (talk): 10:33, 26 April 2013 (UTC)
- What are you going to call the cave diving region? • • • Peter (Southwood) (talk): 15:08, 26 April 2013 (UTC)
- Discussion not related to the Neptune Islands has been moved below under new heading Cowdy001 (talk) 21:11, 26 April 2013 (UTC)

- Here is some coordinate - Rapid Bay -35.517662, 138.182044 > -35.526883, 138.197837. Second Valley -35.507112, 138.211999 > -35.513749, 138.220646. Port Noarlunga Aquatic Reserve - -35.143985,138.467431 > -35.158372,138.462925 This should include the area that is most commonly dived. Also, let's call the area 'Port Noarlunga Reef'. Edithburgh -35.081647, 137.74758 > -35.086212, 137.751786. Victor Harbor -35.617116, 138.577423 > -35.538652, 138.646259. Port Elliot has not been included in Victor Harbor as it is not really that popular as a dive site.Cowdy001 (talk) 21:08, 26 April 2013 (UTC)
- Cave diving - let's call the cave diving region 'Caves & Sinkhole dive sites in the Limestone Coast'
- Great, this will save me a lot of hassle. I will start on the maps and load them up as they become available and make a temporary gallery on the Diving in SA page.
- If you want maps for WP articles based on these maps, just give me the changes an I will see what I can do. • • • Peter (Southwood) (talk): 05:27, 27 April 2013 (UTC)
- I have produced a preliminary map for Rapid Bay. The chart data are also not good in that area, but it looks like the water is pretty much less than 10m. If there are any features that should be added, let me know.
- These maps are a fair amount of work, and won't happen in a day. If there are priorities, let me know. • • • Peter (Southwood) (talk): 08:53, 27 April 2013 (UTC)
- As advised in my recent email, I want to spread the work over about 3 months; I am currently working on the Neptune Islands; I will send a mark-ups for both Wikivoyage & WP use. Rapid Bay - I send you a scan of a chart which shows the contours along with a mark up of your preliminary map. Cowdy001 (talk) 05:39, 2 May 2013 (UTC)
- It is possible to have a preferred order and still be in no rush. I will carry on as I have the time in whatever order seems like a good idea at the time until you let me know that your next project needs a map, then I will put that one at the head of the queue.
- If you have the software, skills and enthusiasm, I can upload svgs for the maps, and you can adapt them as you see fit. If not I will just carry on as currently. Cheers, • • • Peter (Southwood) (talk): 13:23, 2 May 2013 (UTC)
- Hi Peter, for the moment, please just carry on as you are. When time permits, I intend to get skilled in Inkscape in order to create and update images. Cowdy001 (talk) 22:14, 5 May 2013 (UTC)
- I will do that. I may be delayed somewhat as I had a software crash when my power supply failed and had to reload the operating system. Quite a lot of my software still has to be reloaded, and this will take some time as some of it may require help from a friend who is away on a contract. Cheers, • • • Peter (Southwood) (talk): 16:23, 6 May 2013 (UTC)

Photos for Diving in South Australia
[edit]Hi Cowdy, Do you have any photos you could upload for Diving in South Australia? Cheeers, • • • Peter (Southwood) (talk): 06:36, 2 July 2013 (UTC)
- Hi Peter - yes, I do have photos taken at the most of the popular sites. I can upload a selection in the next couple of weeks. Cowdy001 (talk) 08:52, 2 July 2013 (UTC)
- That would be good. It would also be great if you could find a few suitable for making page banners for the articles. Cheers, • • • Peter (Southwood) (talk): 10:43, 2 July 2013 (UTC)
