Coeliac/celiac

[edit]

Hello, and thank you for your edit to the Singapore article! I assume that coeliac is the British, and therefore also the Singaporean spelling, which should be used in that article. Just as a point of information, the word is spelled "celiac" in the U.S. Somewhat analogous variations in spelling are encyclopaedia/encyclopedia, paederast/pederast and paediatrician/pediatrician, with the British keeping the Latin diphthong spelling and the Americans having "simplified" the spelling under Noah Webster in the 19th century. Having Coeliac is hard for me. I have known to get symptoms quite easily. Looking at my gastro specialist certificates, I have known the spelling of the word includes an o, despite the o being silent --EurovisionNim (talk) 07:48, 7 May 2016 (UTC)Reply
I understand and sympathize (or sympathise, if that's the British spelling). I'm just saying that "celiac" is not an incorrect spelling in the U.S., although it's incorrect in other places. I think you'll recognize (recognise) this authority, but there are a lot of other results for "celiac" if you do a web search, including celiac.com and celiac.org, which is the site for the Celiac Disease Foundation.
All the best,
