To help get you started contributing, we've created a tips for new contributors page, full of helpful links about policies and guidelines and style, as well as some important information on copyleft and basic stuff like how to edit a page. If you need help, check out Help, or post a message in the travellers' pub. If you are familiar with Wikipedia, take a look over some of the differences here.
Hi! Thank you for your edits about Montserrat. Regards, jan (talk) 14:30, 15 January 2013 (UTC)
A new note
[edit]- Hello Invertzoo, welcome to Wikivoyage! I'm a bit confused about the copyright you flagged for Nevis. It seems you added most of that content yourself, last year? I only quickly glanced at the TripAdvisor terms of use, but they seem to be using a nonexclusive license, correct? Did you officially distance yourself from your own rights to the text, or why do you now feel you were wrong to add it? Also, could you maybe point out the exact sections that are copied, because I'm having a bit of trouble finding them. I do hope you'll want to contribute some more, in the future. It's excellent content for Nevis, and we could use any of that very well! All the best, JuliasTravels (talk) 10:14, 5 February 2014 (UTC)
Hello JuliasTravels. I was very tired when I wrote that, and so maybe I was too hasty -- let me look again. It could simply be that I thought I recognized the content from TripAdvisor, whereas really I just recognized my own style and type of content (duh!) I certainly would not have copied and pasted stuff from TA (no need to do that in my case), so perhaps there is no problem at all. I will check. Sorry if I sounded an alarm with no cause. - Thanks for clearing that up :-) I've asked in the pub if maybe someone can create a banner for the article (that big grey thing is so...un-Caribbean ;-)) Unfortunately there don't seem to be a whole lot of pictures available under a free license. So if you ever stumble upon some old holiday pictures (or whatever brought you there).... Best, JuliasTravels (talk) 18:34, 5 February 2014 (UTC)
- Invertzoo, I'm also a TA contributor. Thought I'd just give you a heads up that if you cut & paste content that you originally submitted to a TA Traveller Article (aka Inside Page) to any other website (including WikiVoyage), it could be flagged as a copyright violation by TA and the whole article could be removed from TA. They use automated anti-plagiarism software and assume that you copied someone else's text from the other website to TA, and cannot be convinced otherwise. I had some problems with that myself a few months back. Best regards, Country Wife (talk) 04:48, 19 February 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks CountryWife, but I do know that one cannot copy from TA even if one wrote the material in the first place... What happened was that I did not cut and paste any content from TA -- I wrote my own content for WikiVoyage a year ago but I forgot that I had written it. Then a year later, because I recognized my own style and type of content I mistakenly thought that text had been copied from TA by someone else. A silly sort of mistake!
