Actually, I didn't contribute to it. I had recently received administrator super powers and accidently messed up the image multiple times and I continuously reverted the image. I can only recommend contacting User:(WT-en) Mark and User:(WT-en) Evan and ask about the legal status of the image. Mark created the image before "Wikitravel" was sold to a company and I imagine that he was going to license the image under CC-by-SA 1.0, but there's no license information. Secondly, the whole Wikitravel being sold to a company and no one really understanding what the company owns other than the domain, a little bit of ad space (if they ever use it!), and the server. It's possible to venture into philosophical ownership of the name "Wikitravel" is communal, but you never know about us Americans and those up north. -- (WT-en) Andrew Haggard (Sapphire) 06:19, 6 September 2006 (EDT)

I saw the question you asked at Evan's page. I think I know the answer, so here I am!
  1. The logo is in fact available in the svg version. See Image:Treatment.svg, which you can also find by looking under Image:Compass star emblem coolvetica logo.png. In fact, the need for a SVG version was one of the reasons why there was a logo contest last year.
  2. The logo and the SVG, like every other image on Wikitravel, is licensed under cc-by-sa 1.0. Once licensed, it cannot be taken back. Mark may waive some conditions, but no one can add new ones.
  3. Yes, Wikitravel is trademarked, but that only means that you cannot create the same or misleadingly similar picture and use it as a logo for something else, and you cannot use the logo to misrepresent something (e.g. you put it on your letterhead and you claim that you are an official spokesperson for Wikitravel.) Putting it on an image you are contributing to Wikitravel, or using it to credit an image you took from Wikitravel is perfectly fine - that's what logos are for! (But please note that if you plan to reuse an image from Wikitravel, the credits block should include all contributors, not just the Wikitravel logo!) (WT-en) Ravikiran 14:16, 6 September 2006 (EDT)
