Penang
[edit]Hi there! You've been doing great work on the George Town article! I do wonder, though, whether we should really be putting full listings for markets in Balik Pulau in that article. I tend to think not, as the listings would belong in the Balik Pulau article. Instead, I'd suggest simply mentioning, without a listing, that there's also a market in Balik Pulau, and linking the Balik Pulau article in the comment. Does that make sense?

- @Ikan Kekek: Hey there! Thanks for this feedback. I created the listings for night markets based on the understanding that the city of George Town at present covers the entirety of Penang Island (including Balik Pulau). Having said that, this is still a work in progress. I'm aware that separate articles exist for some of the city's suburbs, thus I'm also considering how to best mention the destinations within the city suburbs. - On second thoughts, another way would be to describe the night market in greater detail in the Balik Pulau article. The night market list is rather bare as it is; I have yet to come up with descriptions. But that's just my opinion. Ohmskaya russkikh (talk) 12:17, 13 September 2018 (UTC)
- The city of George Town now covers the entire island? I didn't know that and now see from George Town (Malaysia)#Districts that's been the case since 2015. Should we turn the George Town (Malaysia) article into a districted city, with all the other articles about places on Penang Island turned into district articles? - @Ikan Kekek: Indeed it has. Whereas Penang Island itself only has an area of about 293km2, the city's jurisdiction now covers an area of more than 305km2.[1] At first I thought there was some discrepancy, but then realised this is due to the surrounding islets that are within the city's jurisdiction as well, including Jerejak, Rimau & Kendi islands. Thus the city's area actually extends beyond Penang Island itself to encompass a handful of surrounding islets. In fact, based on a news report dated May 2015, the Mayor at the time proclaimed that the city of George Town now covers the entire island.[2]

- I agree with your suggestion to turn the George Town article into a huge city article. Besides, certain suburbs, like Pulau Tikus & Teluk Bahang, should have separate articles, since these areas contain numerous attractions. For example, Teluk Bahang has several eco-tourism sites, i.e. Penang National Park, Entopia Butterfly Farm, Tropical Spice Garden, Teluk Bahang Dam, ESCAPE Theme Park, etc; those places should be described in greater detail, IMO. - Sounds good to me. Ikan Kekek (talk) 17:15, 14 September 2018 (UTC)
