Query[edit]
Perth/The Coast - I bef to differ on interpretation of some parts of what you have written - and feel that some parts are actually wrong - rather than just reverting or re-editing, I was wondering how you came to some of your claims. cheers sats (talk) 15:39, 2 March 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for responding:-
The Coast is the area of beach on the west coast of Perth.
- For a start I have a problem with calling it 'The Coast' - most first visitors would probably be interested to know that there are very friendly beachs - coast I suspect can mean beach free areas. What do you think of a change to 'The Beaches'.
- An area of beach - feels like something written by a non english speaker
- west coast of Perth - there are no other coasts of Perth, and some first arrivals may not know west from east
- My suggestion to change the lead sentence to:The Beaches of Perth are found in a line to the west of Perth...
The area is bounded to the north by Hillarys Boat Harbour and beyond are Perth's outer suburbs. To the south is North Fremantle and to the east, Perth's Northern Suburbs.
- My apologies, I also have a problem with the regions of Northern and Southern suburbs which in effect are more non-tourist as they are a huge stretch of boring suburbs
Notable beaches along this coastal strip include Cottesloe Beach, Swanbourne Beach, City Beach, Scarborough Beach, Trigg Beach and Sorrento Beach.
- Notable for what? I would prefer to have listed the full lot with all the names, and perhaps elsewhere identify the specific features that make some attractive, for swimming with kids, for surfing, for wind kites and boards, etc
Many of Perth's most affluent suburbs are situated along this coastal strip and there aren't many areas dedicated for tourists except for the Scarborough Beach and Hillarys Boat Harbour areas where there are shops, restaurants and accommodation.
- Sorry - strongly disagree. That is a conflation of almost three topics in one sentence.
- I would suggest: - The Beaches are a mixture of expensive real estate and pockets of very convenient beachside coffee and refreshment outlets.
(In other words, Hillarys and Scarborough are not the only visitor friendly locations, Cottesloe could have easily been included in that generalisation, I wouldnt even talk about areas dedicated for tourists - it all depends what sort... there are some beach areas that may not have shops and accomodation that are nevertheless as appealing as those beaches that have such)
I could go on further, but hey, any responses on the above comments would be appreciated. cheers. thanks for responding sats (talk) 07:53, 3 March 2013 (UTC)
Happy for a change to 'The Beaches'. As mentioned, I based this off the main Perth article which already had a region called 'The Coast' so I just decided to elaborate further on that particular page.
Again the description of the boundaries is based off the map in the main Perth article which already had a region identified as 'The Coast', also on a map. These are where the boundaries come from.
For a change to 'The Beaches' there will need to be a corresponding change to the Perth article.
Notability of the beaches mentioned were based on facilities development and the fact they are listed on the WA Tourism website. A full list of the beaches and what they're suitable for is a good idea though.
Yes the places aimed at tourists I was thinking of those with an established presence, i.e. accommodation, souvenir stores, car rental services, tour offices, etc. (as you mention Cottesloe is one I missed). Of course there are lots of tourist types but I was thinking more along the lines of the traditional demographic.
I'll revert the changes I've made so someone better versed with Perth and the English language can take the reigns! Thanks again!

Your account will be renamed[edit]
Hello,
The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called Rambutaan. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name Rambutaan~enwikivoyage that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Yours,
Keegan Peterzell
