Vermont

In general we try to limit the number of top-level regions (see California for an example) and then sub-divide top-level regions as needed, so if Vermont has "a lot" it would be best to just limit the top-level regions to a handful. Missouri regions - renaming

I noticed you created new Missouri region pages instead of moving the page in order to rename it. If you use the Move tab, which should appear on the top of the page - (well, if you edit the page it definitely will) - you can change the article name and take all the page history already under the old title to go along with the new title. Since you are the only author of these pages this is not an attribution problem for these pages, but if there were multiple authors, it would be like you were taking credit for their work .... For this reason, moving the page is better than copying the page text from one article to another. Never a burden. I think of it as an investment. If your attention isn't drawn to these things when you first do it in an inefficient way then you will keep doing it that way. If I show you the best way to do it then it saves you time, it saves me time, and it saves everyone else time in the future, because things are done as we all expect them to be, not in a different way that we have to work our way through, and possibly fix, later. -- (WT-en) Huttite 04:27, 11 Jan 2006 (EST)

Accommodations

Hey, I notice you are doing a lot of spelling clean-up of Wikivoyage at the moment. Keep it up! One of your changes, however, struck me as wrong at first, namely, the word "accommodations", made to the Tikal page.

Accommodations in and around the park is limited.

I am a native (Australian) English speaker and must admit that I do not recall ever hearing the word accommodation in plural form. So I went straight to Miriam-Webster's[1], the standard dictionary of American English I use at work, and low and behold to my surprise, I find that it states that the word is usually used in plural! Not sure if this is a American vs. British English difference. Anyway, if it is right that accommodation be used in the plural, then the verb should also take the plural form. Image gallery

I'm not sure if you're aware, but Wiki syntax offers the ability to easily create an image gallery without using lots of image and thumbnail tags:

Public domain

Saw your comments on (WT-en) Evan's talk page. Anything that is public domain means it is released for anyone to basically do anything with it (pretty much only slander and libel would be excepted as far as I'm aware). PD is therefore completely compatible with Wikivoyage's license. Also note that much of the US government work (such as the CIA World Factbook) is public domain, and therefore OK to use here. -- (WT-en) Ryan 16:36, 22 Feb 2006 (EST)

Dixie

Hey Tom, could you take a minute and look at the discussion going on on the Talk:Dixie page? I set up Dixie as a region (accurately named for historical reasons) in the state of Utah, but there is a question as to whether it should be renamed and redirected owing to the historical association of the term "Dixie" with the American South -- whether that association is positive or not. The opinion of an Arkansan on this would be a useful thing to have in the discussion. -- (WT-en) Bill-on-the-Hill 20:20, 3 March 2006 (EST)

Hi Bill, not sure I am really any better to comment on Dixie then anyone else. It is one of those Famous Places I'm not really politically aligned with the region and don't have any reason to like or dislike the term. That said, I have to agree with Evan on this one. I suspect more people will be typing Dixie looking for the south then anything else. Basically that is what was done on Wikipedia. I also created a page for Kiamichi Country and that area is also called "Little Dixie" and even mentioned that fact on the page. From the Wikipedia Disambiguation [2] I see there is a "Little Dixie" in Missouri also. Then there is Dixie, Washington and Dixie County, Florida. Oh, I'm not worried as to whether calling a region of Utah "Dixie" is PC; I don't particularly care about that part. The question is whether associating Dixie with the South is pejorative and therefore likely to stir up trouble if the redirect is done, in the experience of one who's on the periphery of that particular Dixie. Anyway, thanks for the view. I haven't seen any problem with association between Dixie and the South or any problems with "Dixie" per se. We have divided the south region into an area that really is Dixie, so that should not be a problem. I have seen issues with the song "Dixie", but that is about it. If I were you, I would plunge forward and disambig it like I wanted. Direct Dixie to the "South" or create a disambig page for all of them. I doubt you would have big complaints either way. Article status

I've been putting the isIn right at the bottom because I thought I read somewhere that it was supposed to go there (although Project:Breadcrumb_navigation doesn't mention it), which also seemed to make sense for ease of finding/editing (and checking, if you forgot since you clicked the "edit" button) it as it ought to change several times as the article progresses. Am I doing it wrong? sorry, completely confused myself - what I thought I read somewhere was that the status template-thing should go at the bottom... - Project:Article_status doesn't mention it either.

yeah, not sure it makes any difference. I am adding {{subst:smallcity}} and to do that I have to put it above the isIn and delete the {{stub}}. Doing this so people will have a template to put stuff. Don't worry to much about format, there will be people that come along later and fix that. The content you are adding is what counts. Toronto

I'm done with Toronto for now (I had to skimp on the last 7 disambiguations - they only list one place - as I've run out of time). As you say "Toronto is one of my favorite places", and I've never been there, please can you decide what's best left in the Greater_Toronto_Area#Cities section, and prune the rest?

Also, if you get a moment, please could you move Milton to Milton_(Florida)? - cheers.

Disambiguations

I'm really struggling with these disambiguations (maybe I should just avoid them).

• Altiplano_(Peru) - shouldn't that be simply Altiplano?
• Puno - shouldn't that be Puno_(city) - as links to Puno_(department) Puno_(region) already exist?

How to delete

Hey -- I put this on User:(WT-en) Ravikiran r's talk page earlier but figured it might be useful for you too as a new admin. Since the deletion procedures aren't real well documented, here are some things to look out for:

1. With both images and articles, first verify that nothing still links to them. For articles, use the "What links here" link in the left nav. For images, there's a section at the bottom of the image page.
2. To delete an article, use the "delete" tab at the top of the page. If there is a talk page that can also be deleted.
3. To delete an image, use the "Delete all revisions" link next to the image upload date. If you don't see that link, purge the image page from the cache using the "History" tab, and change the action value in the URL to "purge".
