Proposal
[edit]I am proposing this page as a way to keep certain templates that we do use off of the list at Special:UnusedTemplates. This includes templates that are normally substituted, GPX files, and maintenance tags which happen to be unused at any given time. A precedent for this type of WV-space page exists at Wikivoyage:Links to disambiguating pages, where we manually link to all disambig pages in order to keep them off of the Special:OrphanedPages list. Are there any reasonable objections? Texugo (talk) 18:48, 25 February 2014 (UTC)
- Could this be renamed to "Wikivoyage:List of template transclusions" to make it clear that it is just a list and not documentation about templates, and {{WikivoyageDoc|administration}} be added so that it is linked with the rest of the administration pages? In addition, it looks like some categories are being added to this page that we might not want, although that may be due to template errors. -- Ryan • (talk) • 19:09, 25 February 2014 (UTC)
- Oh sure, I wasn't really sure what to name it, that would be fine. I'll move it now.
- As for the categories, yeah, you're right. I guess there are about 4 of the templates which do not have a namespace switch on their category insertion portions. That can be fixed relatively easily. Texugo (talk) 19:20, 25 February 2014 (UTC)
- Also need to track down which one is hiding the title of the page. Texugo (talk) 19:21, 25 February 2014 (UTC)
- Inappropriate categories removed. The only thing I still need to fix is whatever is hiding the title of the page. It's probably something that could be cured by adding another switch to Template:Pagebanner, but I'm not sure quite where. Texugo (talk) 21:00, 25 February 2014 (UTC)
- Texugo: I'm not exactly sure what you're seeing, but on my browser (Firefox 27.0.1) it's displaying duplicate titles for me. Also, would you mind if I moved this underneath Wikivoyage:Template index as a proper subpage? It seems primarily to only keep track of current "orphaned" substed templates, much like the template index contains brief documentations of "normal" transclusion-behavior templates. - Not that it's a huge deal, but I don't personally see a problem with leaving it as its own page, as we do with the disambig list. The template index page is more of a help page and is not a complete list of anything, plus there are some other folks around who think we should get rid of that index page. - As for duplicate titles, I don't know why you are seeing that. It appears that your browser doesn't handle the "display:none;" parameter properly. I'm not terribly worried about it though, since it's not intended for reference anyway. As long as it's not expanding all the templates into massive piles of text. Texugo (talk) 12:27, 6 March 2014 (UTC)
- I think it's because you put "Wikivoyage:List of template transclusions" as a level 1 header. It's not hidden as far as I know, so now there are two titles in my browser instead of one. TeleComNasSprVen (talk) 23:12, 6 March 2014 (UTC)
- It is another symptom of your browser's inability to process the "display:none;" attribute that you are seeing two titles. Browsers working properly have the original title hidden by the "display:none;" attribute in the transclusion of {{pagebanner}} (through template skeleton transclusions), so I faked a title with a H1 header (the other possibility would be placing a more complicated switch inside the already complicated pagebanner template in order to disable itself only when it finds itself on this list page). Remove experimental tag
[edit]This page seems to do its job and doesn't appear to be getting in anybody's way. Can we get rid of the experimental tag now? Texugo (talk) 11:57, 30 May 2014 (UTC)
- Done - Texugo (talk) 14:24, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
