Yancheng (盐城, Yánchéng) is the anchor city of Yancheng Prefecture in Jiangsu, the part of the province along the coast. Huai'an is in the prefecture.

Yancheng, whose name literally means "Salt City", was founded in 119 BC named after the salt harvest fields that surround the city.

The coast of Yancheng Prefecture is a home to migratory birds, an as such has been listed as a natural world heritage site under the name Migratory Bird Sanctuaries along the Coast of Yellow Sea-Bohai Gulf of China.
