Calella is a municipality of 19,000 people (2018) in the northern part of Barcelona (province) in Catalonia. It is the tourist capital of the Costa del Maresme and is a cosmopolitan city with a typical Mediterranean climate. Its central pedestrian and commercial area, green spaces and wide range accommodation offer make Calella an important tourist destination.

Served by Rodalies-RENFE Rodalies-Renfe trains  R1  line connects to Barcelona where you can change train to go to airport. It also goes to Maçanet-Massanes where you can change train to Girona (and connect to the Girona airport)

Calella has an excellent heritage in addition to some beautiful beaches.

  • Municipal Art Gallery: In the cultural centre, temporary exhibitions of photography and sculpture throughout the year.

  • The Air Raid Shelter of Dalmau Park, built in 1937, to protect the civilian population from air-attacks during the Civil War. It had a capacity to shelter 3,600 people. It is part of the Memorial Spaces Network of Catalonia and in 2010 was restored to open it to the public. It is a cultural good of local interest by means of which it is possible to get to know one of the most important chapters in the history of Calella.
  • Passeig de Manuel Puigvert is a tree-lined promenade with centuries-old banana trees. It stretches parallel to the beach and has become one of the city's icons. Mayor Manuel Puigvert (1843-1913) embellished this environment, transforming it into a space to enjoy the shade and the sea breeze on hot summer afternoons. Jeroni Martorell had a magnificent balustrade built, decorated with lanterns, goblets and steps. The promenade hosts, among other activities, the Calella and Alt Maresme Fair.
  • 2 Sant Elm de Calella. It was built before the 15th century. The perils of the sea brought devotion to Saint Elm, and that is why the fishermen's brotherhood built the chapel by the sea. Sant Elm de Calella (Q20432144) on Wikidata
  • 3 St. Mary and St. Nicholas church (Església de Santa Maria i Sant Nicolau). The archpriestal church of Santa Maria de la Calella is a neoclassical-style building. It was constructed from 1747 onwards, when the bell tower collapsed and the previous church fell apart. It was expanded in 1785 according to plans by the master Moretó de Vic. The offer of activities in the city is very interesting especially in Summer.

  • Volleyball matches and beach soccer: several times a week the city's tourism area organises beach volleyball matches and beach soccer on the beaches for all those who want to participate.
  • Walk along the Lighthouse Route: a beautiful walk that culminates in the highest part of the city.
  • Visit 1 Calella beaches
    • Playa Garbi — Excellent beach with the Blue Flag award.
    • Playa Grande — Excellent beach with the Blue Flag award.
    • Playa de las Rocas — A small beach that is more like a cove. It is located under the cliffs of the lighthouse, has a nudist area.
  • Ironman Barcelona Calella: One of the stops of the official Ironman circuit. every year in October.
  • Road cycling: The city has hotels with adapted installations for cyclists, which offer services such as parking for bicycles, bike repair, areas for washing bikes, sports menus, flexible meal times. The railway serving the city accepts cycles.
You can train along the coast in the N-II road between El Masnou and Santa Susanna. Or try the road from Arenys to Port of Collsacreu to Sant Celoni.
In Sant Pol starts the bv-5128 and then the BV-5031 until Mataro. This route is a favorite among locals. They call it "el pollastre" (the chicken).
