Kansas City's history is full and rich, stemming from its origin as the last stop before traveling onward on any of the three major trails which cross through the county – the Santa Fe, California, and Oregon. Before American settlement, Native Americans have continuously inhabited the area surrounding the convergence of the Kansas and Missouri rivers for thousands of years.
