Augrabies Falls

Augrabies is a small town in the Northern Cape province of South Africa, situated on the south bank of the Orange River about 100 kilometres (60 mi) downstream from Upington. It is located on the R359 road just outside the Augrabies Falls National Park, which contains the Augrabies Falls for which the town is named.

Get in

From Cape Town, take the N7 north. Either take the R358 for a more direct route (about 10.5 hours in total, albeit along a dirt road much of the way), or continue north to Springbok, taking the N14 east to Augrabies (11 hours in total).

Alternatively, fly to Upington airport, and drive the remaining 120km west.

Get around

See

When the Orange River has a lot of water, the Augrabies Falls turn into mighty falls that are really spectacular.

Do

Hot-air ballooning (in the cooler months only) and white-water rafting are available.

There are also a number of short hikes, and the 3-day Klipspringer hike (closed in summer) available inside the National Park.
