The Severn Valley Railway is a steam heritage tourist line in England. It runs for 16 mi (26 km).

Get in

The Severn Valley Railway can be accessed from any of the stations on the railways route, although most visitors will start their trip at either end of the line.

The railway does not have direct interchanges with the rest of the UK rail network, although Kidderminster Town is a short walk from Kidderminster (SVR) station.

By car

• Bridgnorth station is on Hollybrush Road in Bridgnorth. It is signposted from the A458 Birmingham - Stourbridge - Shrewsbury road, or the A442 Telford - Kidderminster road. The station provides a small car-park operated on a pay & display basis.

• Kidderminster station is on Comberton Hill, in Kidderminster

It is signposted from M5 Junctions 3 and 6 (northbound only), and locally in Kidderminster, Standard UK Brown tourist navigation signs are used.

Get around

The best method of travelling between locations is the railway itself, with most of the rail-related attractions being on or within waking distance of them.

Single tickets are available for £5-14.50 one way for adults and seniors (£3.50-10 for children), or £8.50-21 return (£5.50-14) (Dec 2018).

Freedom of the Line tickets allow unlimited travel during the day between Kidderminster and Bridgnorth and free entry into the Engine House Visitor Centre at Highley (Dec 2018):

• Adult and senior (60+) £19.50 in advance, £21.00 on the day, plus £1.75 per booking
• Child (4-15 years) £13.00 in advance, £14.00 on the day, plus £1.75 per booking
• Family (2 adults + 4 children) £55.00 in advance, £59.00 on the day, plus £1.75 per booking

Kidderminster town during a staged World War II event

• Kidderminster Town station - Although not an original, this station was based on GWR designs.

• The Engine House at Highley - It houses an extensive part of the SVR's heritage collection, including a royal coach used by George V. An admission charge is payable, but waived for visitors with certain rover tickets for the rest of the SVR.

• Bridgnorth - An original station (Grade II listed building), with an on-platform pub!

The railway also operates special events across the railway, and at the Engine House.

Some SVR stations have gift shops. Bridgnorth also has a well-stocked transport bookshop.

An on train 'trolley' service is provided.

There is a refreshment facility at Bridgnorth, and an on-station pub (offering pub snacks).
