North America > United States of America > Great Plains > Oklahoma > Red Carpet Country > Woodward

Woodward is in the Red Carpet Country region of Oklahoma.

Understand

[edit]

Woodward has a colorful past, with everything from US military engagements with the Comanche and Kiowa to cattle drives to a railroad robbery by the Doolin Dalton Gang thrown in. It emerged as an important beef and oil production center over time, with its Southern Plains Research Range Station and location on the Anadarko Shelf, respectively, and was the home of Temple Houston, son of Sam Houston, and Will Rogers for a time.
