Purworejo is a regency of 769,880 (2020) in Central Java.

The plains of Purworejo Regency are composed of alluvium deposits which mainly come from the debris of tertiary volcanic rocks that make up the South Serayu Mountains and Menoreh Mountains. This regency is traversed by three rivers, namely the Jali River, the Medono River, and the Bogowonto River.

By train

  • 1 Kutoarjo Railway Station, Jl. Merpati, Selayan, Semawung Daleman, Kutoarjo. This the nearest railway station to the city centre after there is no longer a train service to Purworejo Railway Station since 2010. Kutoarjo Station is on the south coast of Central Java. There are trains from Jakarta, Bandung, Purwokerto, Yogyakarta, and so on.

By bus

  • 2 Purworejo Bus Terminal, Bengkek, Candisari, Banyuurip. You may take an intercity bus from Pulo Gebang Bus Terminal in Jakarta. It is served by PO. Sumber Alam.

  • 1 Loano Mosque (Masjid Jami' Al-Iman Loano), Banjaran, Loano. The mosque was founded by Sunan Geseng, a student of Sunan Kalijaga, in 1472. As is typical of mosques in Java, Loano Mosque uses wooden pillars as building supports. The main pillar in the main part of the mosque is more than 500 years old. While the terrace was built around 1872.
  • 2 Museum Tosan Aji, Jl. Mayjen Sutoyo No.10, Plaosan, +62 275 321033. M-F, 08:00-16:00. An heirloom museum that occupies a Dutch-era courthouse.
  • 3 Gunung Putri Waterfall (Curug Gunung Putri), Singolopo, Cepedak, Bruno. Open 07:30.
  • 4 Purworejo Railway Station, Jl. Mayjen Sutoyo, Kepatihan. The heritage inactive railway station was built by the Dutch East Indies company, Staatsspoorwegen in the end of the 19th century.
