Kedu (Dutch: Residentie Kedoe) is a region of Central Java in Indonesia.

The Kedu area was formed in the 19th century. Kedu plains are known as the place where the ancient Javanese civilization of the Syailendra dynasty developed, and is an important area in the history of the Medang Kingdom.

Javanese cuisine is very usual food in Kedu. Try mie ongklok (noodles with gravy sauce and beef satay) in Wonosobo, kupat tahu (rice cake with tofu) in Magelang, and sate ambal (chicken satay with tempeh sauce) in Kebumen.

Drink[edit]

As an area with a Muslim majority, it is very difficult to find alcohol drinks in the area. Sweet iced tea and instant coffee is common drinks. You may try specialty dawet ireng (black jelly drink) in Purworejo.

Stay safe[edit]

Beware of the Magelang-Wonosobo alternative route through Pulosaren village, which is prone to landslides during heavy rain.
