Talk
In central and eastern Lombok the people speak in local dialects of the indigenous Bahasa Sasak language of the Sasak peoples of Lombok. Bahasa Indonesian is spoken by many people especially the younger generations. In the tourism areas some people may speak limited English. In some areas catering to tourists there is slightly more likelihood of limited English speakers being available.
Get in
Public ferries provide services for both passengers and vehicles. Labuhan Lombok is on the mid east coast of the island and provides connections from Sumbawa east of Lombok.
Tanjung Lembar in the south west of the island is Lombok's main port and handles small freighters, fishing boats and the combination vehicle and passenger ferries arriving by sea from Bali westward of Lombok.
- Alat Strait: Labuhan Lombok - from: Pototano, Sumbawa with 8 ferries providing 18 crossings per day.
- Lombok Strait: Lembar Lombok - from: Padangbai, Bali, with 12 ferries providing crossings once every hour[8].
These ferries connecting to nearby Sumbawa are the principal facilities for road transport movement including sea borne passengers and private cars in and out of Lombok across the sea to and from the east. Disruptions on these routes can occur as the shipping operators on these routes will often suspend services due to breakdown or heavy seas.
Lombok International Airport (BIL) (LOP IATA) is south west of Praya in south central Lombok. This new international airport will provide facilities for wide bodied aircraft and more modern terminal facilities and cargo facilities.
Please see the main Lombok article for more details on the new international airport and connecting services to Central and East Lombok.

Do not expect alcoholic drinks to be openly served in this part of Lombok and please respect local sensibilities by avoiding drinking openly in public. Local coffee, tea, fruit juices, coconut juice and softdrinks (sodas) are normally readily available.

Emergency service
- Ambulance
In emergency dial - 118
- The reality is that unless within the confines of the main city of Mataram/Ampenan/Cakranegara an ambulance is normally too far away to provide prompt transport in the case of a true emergency. Most often a taxi, police vehicle or a private car is used to get someone requiring urgent medical attention to a hospital. The ambulances in Lombok are more often used in the role of assisted patient transport rather than for first responder/paramedic supported emergency assistance and transport.
