Ancon Harbor

Rio Rimac North is the section of Lima north of Rio Rimac including the districts of Comas, Carabayllo, Puente Piedra, Santa Rosa, Ancón, San Martín de Porres, Los Olivos and Independencia.

Get in

There is a bus rapid transit system, El Metropolitano, that connects some of the districts in the North area (Comas, Los Olivos, Independencia and San Martín de Porres) with Central and South Lima.

For intercity transportation, there is a modern bus terminal: Gran Terminal Terrestre, which is next to the Plaza Norte Shopping Center and the "Tomás Valle" Metropolitano Station.

Ancon

  • Bahia de Ancon. The bay of Ancon has a group of islands (Islas Pescadores) with sea lions and birds, its possible to organize tours of the islands. Recommended to visit between September and March as that's when the most birds are there.

Rimac

  • 5 Cerro San Cristóbal. The hill features a large Peruvian flag painted on its slopes and is situated just north of the Rimac river. With a summit approximately 368 meters above sea level, visitors can contemplate an incomparable landscape: the city with its high buildings, the course of the river Rimac, as well as the sea ports and districts. An observation point with an illuminated cross, a museum and a restaurant are located at the summit. Many tour companies include a visit here on their itineraries, tours can also be organised near the Plaza de Armas for S/10 or an alternative is to take a taxi.

  • 7 Museo de los Descalzos (Museo del Convento de los Descalzos, Museum of The Barefoot Friars), Calle Manco Cápac 202-A, Alameda de los Descalzos, Rímac (From Miraflores or the Historic Center, take lines 301,302,306 (Blue Corridor buses), get off at "Alcázar" stop and walk 4 blocks from there. Alternatively, from "Abancay Avenue" (Historic Center) take any of these lines: EO-24,NM-10, NM-12, NO-41, OO-12, SO-39, SM-05 and get off at "Alameda de los Descalzos" and walk a block distance.), +51 1 481 0441, . Daily 09:30-12:30 and 14:00-17:00. Tours are provided in Spanish and English (it works better if required in advance). You should ring the doorbell in case you find the museum's door closed, then a volunteer will come out to start the tour. Adults S/7, seniors and students S/3, children S/2.

  • 1 Teatro UNI (Teatro de la UNI), Av. Túpac Amaru 280, Rímac (Close to the "UNI" Station. Take Metropolitano Buses: Lines A,B or Expreso 1,2,4,5), +51 1 382 6565 ext 474, . Sometimes, free music concerts and lectures (in Spanish). It´s located in the campus of a university (UNI).
  • 2 Teatro Plaza Norte (take Metropolitano Buses: Lines A,B or Expreso 4, and get to the "Tomás Valle" Station; from there go across all the "Gran Terminal Terrestre" and the theater is in the second level of the Plaza Norte Shopping Center). Only Sa and Su afternoons.
