Regional road 431 comes in from Mikkeli in the east and Leivonmäki in the west. Regional road 429 comes in from the south from highway 5, and is the way in from the direction of Helsinki and Lahti.

- 1 Hirvensalmi Church, Kirkkotie 3. A church building from 1915, designed by Josef Stenbäck.
- 2 Pitäjäntupa Museum, Pitäjäntie 3. Local history museum, set in the old municipal hall. There's an exhibition about Ahti Karjalainen (1923-1990), long-time member of the Finnish Parliament, who was born in Hirvensalmi.
