Israeli South Coast
The Israeli South Coast (Hebrew: מישור החוף הדרומי), extends along the Mediterranean Sea shoreline for 60 km, and is bound by the Sharon plain in the north, the Shfela region in the east, and the Negev region and the Gaza Strip in the south.
The southern part of the large Gush Dan metropolitan area is located at the northwest part of the Israeli South Coast region.
The Israeli South Coast region is quite big in comparison to the Sharon plain and the Israeli North cost region. Unlike the rest of the coastal regions of Israel, the region contains a significantly larger desert area and is the climate in this region tends to be more hot and dry. Nevertheless, in recent hundred years this region has been transformed from a collection of sparsely populated sandy areas to a fertile and populated area, and nowaydays there are various large and medium cities in this region, many villages,kibutzim, and moshavim, as well as a large number of agricultural fields covering large parts of this region. There are also various archaeological sites in the southern coastal plain, mostly dating to the Philistine period.

By train
There is a railway line that runs along the beaches of the southern coastal region. Trains leave Tel Aviv and drive through this line around once every hour.
By bus
You can reach Ashkelon and Ashdod by bus from different cities in central Israel. There are also express bus lines to major cities in this region from Be'er Sheva, and Jerusalem.
By car
Route 4, which is one of the longest roads in Israel, passes through the southern coastal area at Rishon Lezion, Ashdod and Ashkelon, and reaches all the way to Israel's border crossing with the Gaza Strip. Drivers traveling to the southern coastal plain from Jerusalem have to first drive on Route 1 towards Tel Aviv, and then switch to Route 3 at the Latrun intersection. From there you can reach Ashdod or Ashkelon. Drivers traveling to the southern coastal region from the Negev or Beer Sheva should first drive north on Highway 40 and then, at Kiryat Gat, head to Highway 35.
